Is a "relay is a relay is a relay"?

Just wondering if a Jaguar relay is the same if I were to simply go to the auto parts store and get a typical relay?

Jaguar's relays built tougher? Wired the same configuration as other relays?

OR...do I have to use Jaguar relays instead?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I have used the ÜRO PARTS Part # LJA6703AA relay as a replacement for the Jaguar Relay. They are $5.11 ea from Rock Auto. They are much cheaper than the Jag unit and seem to work fine.

Not all relays are made the same. The "Bosch" relay has a standard configuration, but with many variances. My old Rolls Royce has so many relays, that I have not even seen them all. In the Rolls it is important to have a relay with a quenching diode if the relay is associated with an electronic circuit. Don't know about Jag, but I would be cautious to be sure that a replacement relay has the specifications as required.

The ÜRO PARTS Relay that I referenced clearly shows a suppression circuit in parallel with the coil:

That is probably a direct replacement fit. Good deal! That suppression circuit uses a resistor that is good, but I prefer a diode because it is more secure in my opinion. That is also a SPST relay and I know on my Rolls, that it calls for a DPDT relay in some instances. I just use the DPDT relay in all circuits just to be sure.

What do the DPDT relay's cost?

Don't get lost in all that. If the relay matches, you are good. We sell the same relay for about the same cost. If the relay is some sort of "fancy" Jaguar or Rolls thing...well, get ready to reach for your wallet. Most of them are not.

...been fortunately, very busy! I'm here though! Chasing little knick knack stuff for folks. That's time consuming, but it's all good.

I just wish I could get a layout and location description of all the relays on my 2014 F-Type S

Must have a suppression diode fitted to the coil or you will bugger the output transistor in the ECU and you will no longer get a switched earth for the relay coil.
Been there buggered that on my heater pump circuit.
