Removing studs from hub
Is there some trick involved to remove studs from the wheel hub? They wont come off even though I apply lots of torque, see picture below

A good soaking of PB Blaster overnight. A little heat from a Mapp gas torch. Then hit it with an impact gun. That would be my approach. Ltd |
The XK8 uses 2 versions of the stud 1 is a spline version and 1 is a threaded version. From the appearance of the back of the 1 stud that can be seen in the photo, it would appear you have the spline version. To remove them you will most likely need heat (torch) and a hydraulic press. They are forced into the hole in the hub.
The tool your using doesn't appear to give a straight push which is important for removal. Since the type of stud is VIN specific it would help to know the last 6 numbers of the VIN to identify what you are working with. |
The last digits of my VIN is 02752. It is a 2000 year model

Whats wrong with using a press or bfh???

I've never been able to get out press in studs without a sizable press to "press out". The hand tool method doesn't work (for me any way) unless they are already loose. Instead of fighting it, just take them to a machine shop. They can probably do it while you wait, and press in the new ones.
