Replace XK8 Coupe Fuel Pump- with the tank still in the car?

Question- I have a 99 XK8 coupe and the fuel pump seems to be dead. I have read the details on replacing the pump on the convertibles, but on the coupe the subwoofer hole sits almost directly over the fuel pump assembly into the tank.

Has anyone replaced their pump this way- without taking the tank out?? I did this on a 98 XJ8 years ago and it worked, but this is my first coupe.

Comments?

Some owners have done this. The holes do not exactly align, but with the tank mountings loosened, it can be done. Be careful not to force the tank too hard.

Opening up thre subwoofer hole?

I was thinking of opening up the subwoofer hole slightly (forward) so the opening is right over the tank flange. Then the metal can be put back in with riveted (not welded) tabs....

That way nothing on the tank has to change- it can stay where it is...

And it's done- a snap.....

Not a bad job at all- replaced the fuel pump in my 99 XK8 coupe without taking out the tank. A lot easier then working from below. I removed a small section of metal ahead of the subwoofer and then all is good. Didn't even have to loosen the tank mountings. The removed piece will be secured/sealed back in there with RTV and that's it....

Here's a pic....
