All Metal Secondary Tensioners are the same OEM units, regardless of source.

Default Geek Tensioners

I checked Geeks and they show tensioners for 2003 xk8. Just want somebody to confirm/deny that it's the same part for my MY2000. Do I also need just the pair of valve cover gaskets, or are there other bits...? Thanks guys, Bob

The Tensioners are the same.

You will also need 4 shorter Tensioner Mounting Bolts. Ford # W500301*S300 Screw

Some people re-use the original Cam Cover Gaskets, or: FEL-PRO Part # VS50724R

Thanks Paul. I'll be renting the tool in December. Bob

My 2 cents...When I did my tensioners, (14 months ago) I used the Eurospare tensioners, the shorter bolts and either a Fel-Pro or Victor cam cover gasket kit (Sorry, I suffer from CRS!), all from Parts Geek. As Paul said, the tensioners are ultimately from an OEM source.

Bob, on my 2000, I didn't rent the tool...instead I used the alternative zip tie method (well documented in the stickies) to complete the upgrade. I believe that the spark plug o-rings are included in the gasket kit. When you put the cam covers back on with the new gaskets and o-rings, pay attention to the torque specs and the tightening sequence and you will avoid future oil leaks! Good luck and enjoy your new found peace of mind.

Cheers!

Jon

Here's my lessons learned on replacing the secondary tensioners.
1. Rotate engine using a 24mm socket and breaker bar on the crank nut to relieve pressure on exhaust cam, then lift cam to remove tensioners.
2. I used Lucas assembly lube when putting the cam caps back on, just a precaution.
3. I replaced cam cover gaskets, can't go wrong for $50. It's worth it.
4. Remove fuel injection relay to get oil pressure to the tensioners before starting engine.
5. Rent inch/pound torque wrench, 90-220 range from Auto Zone, don't second guess torque values.
6. This is an easy job, take your time. Kudos to the FORUM!!!!!

Beware of the gaskets for the cam cover from euro spare. They do not fit. They are twice as thick as the original ones. Ended up buying the Felpro kit.
Hope this helps.
If you covers are not leaking you might consider reusing them. Dab some silicone on the cover joints.

For my Y2k car I used Victor Reinz VS50397, complete set, outstanding quality and fitment, recommended.
