Rubber seal around windshield header

Hi all, I am sure someone knows the answer to this which would be of great help. I am replacing the rubber seal around the windshield header - this is the seal that the convertible top drops onto on the windshield header, and it actually wraps around the entire windshield down into the door frame on each side, all one piece. It is technically referred to as "XK8 body hardware, convertible/soft top, frame & components, weatherstrip header". I attached a diagram, it is item 1. I think maybe that one of the things I need to do first is remove item 7 from each side, which is the weatherstrip retainer pillar. My real question I guess is how is the weatherstrip retainer on the pillar removed? Can it be removed without damaging it? Has anyone replaced this same weatherstrip and can offer advice? Thanks in advance! I hope to get this done before I leave Friday for a 2800 mile journey with the car and would like a non leaking roof :)

Do you mean this rubber, this bit I tugged on pulled out.

I think it is that, not sure from your photo, but it looks like you pulled off the rubber along the windshield pillar? If yes, then that would be it. Honestly maybe I made it too complicated when I read on the parts diagram that there is a "weatherstrip retainer" which I assumed needed to be removed to free the seal, but it seems from what you did that the seal just fit into a groove?

Yes that is the A pillar, it just pulled free and pushed back into a grove, but I only removed the A pillar sections.
