Screenwash pump is dead

I confirmed that the screenwash pump for my car is dead. I removed the fender liner, actuated it and no sound. Tested it with a voltmeter and it is in fact receiving current. Turned on the headlights and pressed the screenwash button six times. The headlight pump works just fine.

I found that the part number is LJA7031AB. I don't fancy buying a used one that may fail in a few months. A new one on SNGBarrat is about $100 and is on special order. Other places have it for more money. I was wondering if, by any chance, some other car that is not a Jag uses the same pump?

I had the washer pump die on an X-type (X400) and used a universal pump as a replacement. Don't know if it would work for an XKR.

It might. What did you have to do to fit the universal pump?

Windscreen pump fit-ment

Not sure on the X100 but did this with a 1972 Triumph as couldn’t get the OEM pump.

First you you need to see what input and output you need to the pump. There’s probably one water inlet and 2 water outlets. Pipe diameters will probably need adapters and pulling tight old car water lines to fit probably isn’t going to end well. Then there’s the electrical power connection to cut and splice too.

You need a lot of “faffing” to make it work so USD100 probably doesn’t sound too bad. I could salvage my scrap car’s pump, but that’ll be 15 years old so no point really.

If I recall correctly, I just made sure the wiring and hose connections were right.
