Seat Screws Inaccessible 97 XK8

The screws are all blocked as the seat is stuck at this position.

Although it looks accessible, the front seat screw is blocked by the rail overhead,
Hello: All the motors of the driver's seat in my X100 have stopped responding to the switches, and I want to remove that seat to examine the wiring harness and connections. However, the seat is stuck at a position where the rails cover the Torx seat removal screws on the floor (please see attached photos). Is there any trick to accessing them, i,e. a manual release or trick of some kind? I would hook the battery directly to the seat motor but I don't know which wires in that yellow connector go to which terminals and don't want to blow the assembly. Thank you!

You'll have to read down a ways, but the answer is there. You can unbolt the seat from the frame with T45 bit.

Hi John: I don't think you understand or read my post. The Torx screws can't be accessed because the seat rails are covering them, due to the stalled position of the seats. I'm wondering if there is a strategy to get the seats to move so that they can be accessed.

Larry, not sure you read the links posts. Several others were in the same spot.

Option 1
One of the posts says "Jaguar engineers planned for this (very same conundrum)". They provided access to unbolt the seat from the frame , which is blocking the bolt from beneath. I assume it is easy enough to access the bolt you mentioned with the entire seat out of the way. This is different bolt than you are trying to get to. Your blocked bolt holds the frame to the floor (T40). The 4 bolts in this suggestion holds the seat to the frame.

Option 2
It is acknowledged in a couple of posts in this string that, yes one can apply 12volts to either the wire harness or its upstream relay to energize the motor to move the seat and frame exposing the bolt.

Hope the clarification helps you out. I'd probably go for the 12volts if you think the motor still works. If I missed your question again, please excuse me.

Larry, here's the schematic. See 12.3. KS (Pink Slate) & KO (pink Orange) moves the seat for aft whether 2 way or 3 way seats.

I was wrong above, there are no relays in line.

Larry, all seat connections are 12volts. You cannot blow anything out with 12volt direct connection. Yes be safe - put an in line fuse on your positive 12volt lead.

Did you know you can use your battery charger as a 12volt source for tests like this? Just clamp a wire into each charger lead. Expose the tip of each wire to deliver the 12volts.

Of course apply the external voltage to the disconnected seat connector. Just to be safe.

Hi John:

Thanks so much for your reply and your schematics. I'm going to try the 12V tactic; will let you know how it goes.
Cheers,
Larry
