Secondary tensioner replacement

What would be a fair price for an Indy to replace the secondary tensioners on a 2001 XK8?

Depends . . .

Most will require a gasket set replacement although many DIY'ers probably won't unless there is preexisting oil leaks. FelPro set for the LS is about the cheapest route at $40 discounted at Advance or other.

Ask that the quote include Lincoln LS '02 tensioners/bolts. They are going to be about half what Jaguar parts numbers will cost.

My own experience doing the job for the first time took 4 hours using the full Jaguar cam lock down alignment tool set and procedure. The zip tie method is quicker if your tech feels comfortable with it.

Bottom line: $600 low if the tech is experienced enough to know how easy this is, $800 high

Four hours labor (whatever the going rate is in your area) + parts. I had my indie do it last year and he didn't have a problem with me sourcing the parts (SNG Barratt & Rock Auto). I also replaced the spark plugs at the same time (97000km/60000miles). Rock Auto sells a cam cover & spark plug gasket set for around $US50-$55.

Do you know for sure the primary tensioner and guides are in excellent condition? I'd have them checked. Mine are cracking. Doing it all including chains.
