Shaky 01 xkr
 

I have 2001 xkr with 105k. Car started to shake violently recently.
I think i caused the problem: couple of days ago i got in the car to start it(rushing home from walmart) and i didnt turn the key over all the way, car stalled(didnt really start) and i quickly pulled the key out and tried again. Car started with no issues, but when i pulled up to the light 300 feet down the road it started shaking really bad on idle. Somehow i was able to get it home (10miles) and didnt notice anything under highway speed . But as i would slow down or stop it was doing it again. Didnt drive it since (dumbass did try to start it)
After reading some posts here i assumed it was a fuel pump problem (pumps faling) and i just changed them (pain in the ass) by removing them through the speaker hole (dont ask). But to my dissapointment car is behaving the same way.
It starts up, kinna rough idles for 10 sec (1500-2000) then RMP start to drop and car start to shake and it feel like it wants to stall?????
Any ideas or advices on what to do next???
Trottle body, mafs cleaning??
Tensioners??

Welcome to the forum. You should read the OBDII codes and take it from there.

Shake like that at idle is not fuel pump. One or more of the cylinders is not firing. My guess is either an injector or coil/plug failure. Pull codes first.

Fuel
Spark
Air

If you checked the first, seems like a misfire to me. Code reader should help you out. If not, I'd check the battery, leads, coils and plugs.

In the past I've had cars shake like this due to a failed coil, failing battery and/or alternator, and vacuum leaks.

So i finally went out and bought a CODE READER. Looks like i went throught trouble of replacing the fuel pumps for no reason... Grrrrrr... Now i know to check here first..

Anyways i got a total of 6 codes pop up.. Kind of freaking out...
First set of codes are all:
(1-4) P0301 (generic)
Cylinder 1 misfire detected
Cylinder 2 misfire detected
Cylinder 3 misfire detected
Cylinder 4 misfire detected

P1316 (jaguar)
Misfire rate exceeds emissions

P1111 (jaguar)
System pass (???)

Any ideas or thoughts are highly appreciated.
Iam hoping its not a total disaster as my pregnant wife is all over me about selling my Beast.

On a supercharged car, with multiple misfires, first thing I would check is for moisture in the spark plug wells. If the coil covers are not sealing well, water can get in from the grill in the hood.

While you are in there, check the spark plugs, If they have never been changed, they are over their rated life at 105K.

P1111 is not a fault BTW, it just means the automatic emissions tests have passed.

I am not even going to check them, want to put new ones in. Any suggestion on what type to get, found quite a few options.

Just ordered the spark plugs. While waiting for parts to come i figured i try and so some extra maintance. Found this article about:
Cleaning the Jaguar XK8/XKR Throttle Body, MAFS, and Part-Load Breather.

Do one thing at a time and test after each change. Otherwise you'll never know what caused the fault and exactly what it is that fixes it.

Sooo... I got the plugs delivered today and i got busy..
Pulled the first one out (passenger side, front one) and its covered in Oilhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/76234903@N04/6844825826/.. Called a friend (tech at jaguar in Baltimore) and he said i have a Cam cover seal leak... Sound right??

Also my trottle body looks really bad, but he advised me not to clean it because it would "throw the sensors off" and the car would run like crap?? I really dont want to put it back together looking like this:

Yes, it look like you have oil puddling in your spark plug wells due to leaking cam cover seals. You should replace all the cam -cover seals and gaskets before you put in your fresh plugs. This can be a cause of misfires (even though oil is dielectric, there is dirt and impurities in it).

You throttle body can be gently cleaned with a cotton rag and CRC throttle body cleaner sprayed on the rag (not in the throttle body) without damage.
