Default Should there be a rear window gap along metal trim - XK8?

Was going to wash my car when I noticed the rear windows have this gap between the metal trim and the glass all along the bottom edge. On both driver and passenger sides. Is this normal?

My Coupe has a gap that varies from zero to about 3/16".

Hey Paul, do you feel there is no rust potential from having a gap? Seems odd to have such a gap where rain and debris can get in. Thanks for the reply!

My first response to that question may sound sarcastic but its true: I don't drive the Jag when it's raining.

Actually, the Outer Trim Molding is not a weather seal, just decorative. The glass fits into a inner seal with drain provisions.

On mine, one side is absolutely tight up against the glass, the other is the same for most of its length, but bows out by about 1/16 over a few inches. Mine looks like a sign of ageing, but yours looks more like a badly fitted item. It's only a press on fit to the clips underneath.

I seem to have more luck finding answers from the forums by Googling my questions rather than using the forum search!

I found a few threads on the subject and found a number of rust issues and interior damage coming from that pesky window gap. I'm going to have to open mine up and check if there is rust. It looks as though the window slides straight out. So, I might be able to reform the trim to sit tight. Or I might make a seal kit to compensate for the gap. I think the body on this Jaguar model is not the best fitting and that is why so many are having varying gap sizes.

Not discouraged though. So much of my car is working very well compared to other British cars I had to live with.

My car is a 2003 convert. I replaced the window regulator and found that:
The rear window seal mounts on a seal carrier which is a very sturdy piece of metal. The seal carrier mounts inside with two nuts/screws (can't remember) there is room for adjustment. You may have to remove interior panel, lower window to get room to adjust.
