Small oil leak
Recently replaced the oil pan gasket. Which took care of the vast majority of my oil leak. Still have a very small leak that accumulates at the bottom of the torque converter housing. I can't really tell for sure but the leak maybe coming from the crankshaft position sensor. (I am not 100% sure that is the name of the sensor). It is also possible it is coming from somewhere else. This leak is so small it is something I can live with. How difficult to replace the CPS? Is it something I could screw up or is it as simple as taking it out and putting in a new one?
Thanks in advance. |
Hi,
there is no Oil around the CPS so you can exclude 'em from the usual suspects. Fritz |
Did you check for oil around the Camshaft covers? Mine were leaking and left oil at bottom of engine around where you're looking.

there is a small threaded plug on the rear of the block just above the main bearing seal. one can only get to it by removing the transmission.
well you could do some preventative maintenance and replace the transmission A-drum. then this plug can be checked and one might as well replace the rear main seal while things are apart. OR, if the loss of oil is not significant, just live with it. |
The rear main seal leaks more often than the plug, so you should do both.

Is there a way to tell if the plug is leaking without removing the transmission?
I had my rear main seal replaced a few months ago, and that stopped a huge oil leak. Just last night I noticed there was still a small leak from the rear of the engine, so this post has good timing for me. |

maybe you could try one of those fiber optic cameras such as a bore scope.
