Haven't been on here for months, having sold my XKR back in October last year.

Any how, I have just bought myself a little Mazda MX5/Miata and it has a canvas roof like on your Jags. It's in ok condition, but could do with a good clean and reblacking.

What products would you recommend?

The never ending answer(s) is Raggtopp and 303. Both do a great job on the canvas top.

 

Can you elaborate on both since I'm not familiar with these products?

 

RaggTopp is simply paraffin wax and a thinner that flashes off quickly leaving the wax deeply imbedded in the canvas fiber or fibre if you prefer. It is recommended by the maker of the convertible top material. Works well and what I have used for several years. Little messy to apply requiring masking everything that you don't want protected. Over spray requires naphtha or similar to remove from glass or paint.

The 303 product line was developed more for boating canvas materials and seems to work like a silicone product although it is advertised as containing no silicone. Seems to be the standard product for US pleasure boat canvas like materials and equally popular with the auto canvas top crowd.

Thank you so much for your detailed post about these convertible top treatments. These products are hard to get from where I reside. In any case, has anyone tried 3M's Scotchgard such as this Is this product any good for our XK8 convertible top?
