Stereo Amp part #s

Stereo Amp part #s
I blew the amp in my 98 coupe (AC DC blasting) and know it calls for part # LJA4170AA, but I see the convertible amp on Ebay LJA4170BA for much less. Physically identical, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an actual design difference between the 2?
BTW I brought my car to the local exhaust shop and had them remove the 2 forward mufflers, remove the center resonator and change to an h pipe, route the rear pipe under the axle with larger pipe, remove the giant rear cans and replace with short thrush glasspacks and chrome tips. Cost under $400, took 3 hours, looks much better, huge power gains, sounds like a 60s American muscle car under acceleration, quiet powerful burble under normal use, no rattles or whines at any speed. I'm very glad I didn't spend thousands for the after market exhaust systems available!
Heads swivel and jaws drop when I leave a red light hard, now it runs and sounds like it should've when it left the factory.

Hi Jim,
There has been some previous talk about this.
The JEPC shows that, for the coupé, the amp is part #LJA4170AA to VIN 018107 and LJB4170AA thereafter. I guess this is where Jaguar changed from HK to Alpine for the ICE
LJA4170BA is for the convertible.
The difference I read is in the internal active crossover network (how the amp carves up the audio frequencies for distribution to the various loudspeakers). So, the convertible amp will most likely work in the coupé, but the sound balance may be wrong.
There is another thread started by DaveinVA here:
LJA4170AA/BA Amplifier Musings - watch out for the spoonerisms
discussing a repair, so if you (or someone you know) is handy with a soldering iron that would be a much more economical way to get Angus & the boys rockin' again..
BTW,JEPC lists the part number you're seeking at $4561! You could probably get a complete parts car for less than that.....
Hope this helps,
Mike

I have absolutely no idea about compatibility of the two amps ( ) but an outline of Jaguar's numbering structure may help assess this and other parts interchangeablity.
Early part numbering is 3-Alpha + 4-Numeric + 2-Alpha e.g. LJA4170AA
The usual format progression with Jaguar P/N's is that a change of the two suffix letters (e.g. AA to AB) indicates a different supplier or minor design change. A change in part or all of the three prefix letters (e.g. LJA to LJB) is normally a major design change or complete component update.
