Smile Tensioners Secondary and/or Primary

In discussing my 2001 XK-8 with a mechanic, He stated that the main timing chain tensioner and guide should be replaced as well as the secondary tensioner. I have seen many posts about the secondary tensioner, however far fewer about the primary tensioner. Seeing that both are made of the same materials this seems to make sense.

I’m planning to keep the car a long time but do not have unlimited funds to spend on it.

What are your thoughts?

This type of project is all about your ability with the spanners, how deep your pockets are and can you afford not to. There are many threads on here with horror stories and pics. Your last but one line say's it all. TS
