Tilt Steering
The telescoping wasn't working in 2001 XK8. Found the telescoping cable was shredded. I replaced the cable. Before final assembly, I tested telescoping feature. It went in and out several times with no problems. I re connected the up and down wiring harness and now nothing works. Up and down doesn't work and telescoping doesn't work. Fuses are ok. When I hit the button to activate up and down or telescoping I hear a click at glove box but no movement. Tried un hooking the up and down harness but still no movement now any way...Any suggestion>?

Steering Column inoperative
Wutitis101;
The steering column joystick goes through the Body Processor (Steering Column Movement portion) located behind glove box, air bag bracket. You may be hearing something, as you describe, from the body processor, a grey module w/104 pins. When you checked fuses - there are three you may want to check: 1.)Driver's side fuse box - #8-10amp, controls joy stick switches; 2.) Driver's side #5-15 amp controls logic to body processor; 3.)Passenger side fuse box #7-20 amp controls motors for up/down, in/out movement. There are also two grounds 1.) at the steering column switch and 2.) a black ground from the body processor module for the motors. In sounds as if an open circuit exists, either at the column or body processor. |
Thank you. I was under the impression there was just the one fuse. Im out of town but will check Monday morning.

The passenger side fuse was blown but still doesnt work after replacement. Still same clicking sound. So im assuming i have a broken or loose wire undef the column When I was replaceing it. Will rip it apart this afternoon and see.

Since you had a blown fuse, corrected it, and then still have the clicking noise, I agree, you may have a shorted wire in the column which is blowing the driver's side fuse. Probably need to get into it again and check wiring and grounds, both at the column and body processor under pass. dash.

Thank you for all the help JAG13Cat! It was a forgotten black ground wire at the column motors wiring harness. Spade connector and a screw to ground and its telescoping in and out as it should. Much appreciated!!!
