Timing Please help with Timing after rebuit
 

Ive just made full rebuilt on my XK8 1997, but my mechanic does not know how to make timing right.
PLEASE HELP

You shouldn't of have somebody that doesn't know how to do the timing do the repair, or he should of done some research.

You did not mention your location, so I hate to be too disparaging of the quality of garage mechanics where you are, but the AJ V8 engine is an interference engine and has no TDC (top dead centre) marks.

@BobRoy is right in that your 1997 AJ V8 engine rebuild needed the right tools and more importantly the mechanic should have followed a strict procedure. All the "Jag people" on this forum are aware of the dangers if a timing chain slips, the timing could be off and your engine could be written off.

Your car is probably at the stage where the mechanics is putting the chains back on, and doesn't know where/how far to crank as there are no TDC marks. That's because he didn't follow the procedure to lock the camshafts down prior.

Unfortunately for you, the mechanic will have to do some homework and probably have to strip down the engine again.

You time the camshafts when you replace the timing chains.
Did the mechanic not do this? Yikes!
