Updating my wheels
I've been looking into updating my wheels. My car has the stock 17" rims with Michelin Pilot's that are in very good condition. I was considering going to 18", for a cooler look, but then would have buy new tires $$$ (and what do I do with the old 17's?) So it's economics over aesthetics.
Anyway, looking at Coventry brand rims that advertise that they're made for Jaguars (???) and are reasonably priced. Has anyone bought a set and could give me a quick review? Thanks, Max |
Max - if you do an Advanced search with Coventry as a keyword and search the XK8/XKR forum, you will find several threads - one for certain has the Hornets and a few with Whitleys.
I am looking at getting a set of the Whitleys in the near future |
I've got the 17" Hornets on my '97.

I'm thinking of down dating my wheels. The front of the car looks so much like a modern E Type, I am thinking of going to some 16" wires, with some 225 60 R16 tires. It should keep the car at the same height, and the look should be amazing. I already have a speedster, so I think I will make my XK8 more art than anything else.....Be cool....Mike

Yelp the wires are bad ass old school, I wanted them also until I got the quote at $650 a wheel plus $125 shipping, that's $3100 plus tires! Too rich for my blood, ordered these yesterday, going for the old school hot rod look!

You'll find there's no wrong answer here. Except for Revolvers.

If you like the look of the 18" Aris style off of the 2005-2006 XK8, I have a set of 4 for sale over in the Classifieds section.

Thanks to all who responded. I'd like to get the wheels that 01Silverstone is selling, but the economics with having to buy new tires (my car has 17" rims) are a bit daunting. I'll probably have to stay with new 17" Coventry rims for this project. Not sure about whether to go for just the Silver, or the look-at-me Chrome.

Stay away from chrome, IMHO. My Apollos were chromed and now they look like crap with the chrome pealing. Old school new school your choice but I think the silver wheels look better on the XK8

I just bought a set of beautiful 16" Dayton wire wheels, with a nearly new set of taller Goodyears already mounted, for $550. The wheels will clear my brake calipers, and I will just need to work with wheel adapters, to get my offset right. I will post a picture, when I take my trip to South Carolina in a couple of months, to get them. The car should be completely sorted out by then,(new interior, valve body, clutch drum, and all) at least as far as a Jag can be.....Be cool....Mike:icon_cool:

I would LOVE to see how they look! Please post a picture after they've been installed.

Was that $552 a rim or for the set? Mine are starting to lose their chrome, so I've been thinking about getting new rims too. TIA! |

Mine are starting to lose their chrome, so I've been thinking about getting new rims too. TIA! I think these are going to look great. With the grey spokes and the silver center "spoke" highlights it will look like floating spinners going down the road. Plan to put either 245/45/18 or 255/45/18 tires on them. Either will match the rolling diameter of my stock 19's with 245 front 255 rear 40/19 tires. Now I'll also be able to rotate my tires for longer life. |
