I have just moved the red Corvette out, now I want a new cat! Looking for 2000-2005 XK8 or XKR convertible. Are they as quick as the vette?Any tips or advice would be welcomed.

Peace

What vintage/kind of "red Corvette" did you have? Mine was a 95 LT-1 and going from that to the Jaguar is like apples and oranges. My XKR on paper has 100 more horses than my old Corvette but also about 500 pounds extra to haul around. Consequently, the Corvette felt much more nimble and quick than the Jaguar. For about a year or so I was lucky enough to have both of these cars at the same time (it took that long to sell the Corvette). During that time it was a toss-up as to which car I preferred driving. The Corvette was much more fun but the Jaguar was much more elegant and classy.

To give you a frame of reference, the 0 - 60 time for that vintage XKR is 5.2 seconds. The XK8's 0 - 60 time is around 6.0 seconds. Other than speed/quickness, SeismicGuy is absolutely correct regarding the difference between the Corvette and XK8/R, muscle vs. class. Both are great cars, it just depends on what you want. For me, the XKR is the only car I ever wanted. Also, Corvettes are very common, whereas there are less than 5000 X100 type XKRs total in the US (less than 10,000 total made world wide).

My Vette was 94 ZR1. It was very nice and quick, but I really like the XKR. The research starts today. Hope to look at a few this weekend!

be patient MrReason, its easy to get swept away by the first shiny mesh grille that smiles at ya. The good ones are worth looking around for, even if you have to across the country to get it.

yes EXACTLY Im in pittsburgh and looked for 5 months and drove to memphis to get mine. Just do your research and see one you can find that has some of the pesky problems already fixed

Hi MrReason, if you see the right car, just buy it! I bought mine on a whim, and very glad I did so - but then, others might say I got lucky. But sometimes you just have to roll with the dice otherwise you'll spend your time on pure "research" and too little "life".

And, welcome to the forum!

I stepped out of my modified '91 ZR-1 for an XK8. Naturally, not the explosive, breathtaking power of the LT5, but superior ride, comfort, and you can actually hear the stereo. I would have preferred the XKR which is much quicker/faster, but I was trying to get away from the temptation. After 3 years with it I LOVE this jag.............but I think I'd love a XKR better.

PS: Gotta be 2003 or newer. Here's a couple:
