Maybe a stupid question, but I have been looking at 2005 XKRs on the Car Gurus site, basically monitoring prices, and every one I see has the wooden inlays on the steering wheel. Mine does not, it is all leather. Any idea why?

 

You have the optional all-leather wheel They are pretty rare. If you are wanting to swap, I'm sure there is someone on here who would be willing. What color is your wheel, all black?

 

Yes, all black. My previous XK ('97 XK8) had the wood, I do kind of miss it, but if it is a rare option will probably keep it. Wish I could find the original build sheet or sticker, as I understand that only just over 1,000 2005 XKR 'verts were produced, and only about half of them made it to the US. I have been trying to find production numbers on specific paint/interior combinations to further narrow down how many were made like mine. Black on Black was probably pretty popular.

I actually purchased an all-leather wheel for my old 2005 XK8, as the wood on my wheel was cracked/faded from the sun. Plus I liked the look of the all-leather (personal preference of course).

Never got around to installing it (traded the XK8 for a Victory Edition XKR), and sold it on eBay for $150! They are indeed rare so I would hang on to it if you don't mind the look.

Also, I believe there were actually 2 optional all-leather wheels... is it perforated or non-perforated?

My 2005 XK8 Coupe Final Series 4.2-S had a black perforated leather steering wheel as an OE fitting.



I prefer the half wood design but never bothered to change it.
