Question xk8 gearbox fault message

showing codes p0730, p0720, p0734. Transmission shop guy said that speed output sensor and that i have to change computer as well and that has to be done by jag dealer….is this true, does anyone know where speed output sensor is located? I hate going to dealership as usually they give it to me with sand and glass as lube…..kinda painful….help?

also the car only has 50,000 original miles

If you have a 4.0 L with the 5HP24 the following will be of use:

You do not have to remove the transmission to replace, just the valve body. Do that first to see if you really have to replace the TCM, which I doubt. But if you do, get one with exact matching numbers and it may be plug and play. I bought a spare and it works fine.

If you do have to get a refresh, many independent shops can do this.

thanks, gonna try to locate tcm, is it difficult to replace? and what parts needed, obviously tranny pan gasket and filter, also where is the ecu/computer located so i can check the connections? also i did register in new forums….appreciate all help. 2004 xk8 convertible, 4.2l v8

do i have to order any other gaskets to drop the valve body?

in the process of ordering parts, not sure how to tell if tcm is bad or not, getting on-line and ordering service manual, along with pan gasket and filter to start....rarely goes into "limp mode", guess theres one way to find out.

Do yourself a favor and read some of the information in the DIY sticky on the top of the forum, you will then have a better Idea what's involved. Look for Transmission section within the DIY
