Searching for remote match
#2
I'll dip my toe in these very dangerous waters of giving advice on remote fobs!
The essential is always to get a replacement remote that matches the number on the back of the original. I'm guessing you never got an original with the vehicle.
The correct fob for your 2003MY will be an LJE2610xx. The problem is the xx suffix. it could need an AA, AB or AC. Only way to be certain is the dealer can identify the correct one from your VIN.
The parts Catalogue does narrow it down to VIN ranges for US models:
to 0442775 : LJA2610AA
from A11051 : LJE2610AB
from A30645 : LJE2610AC

SLCM matching
I'm confused regarding the Vin number
Since the suffix on the used module I have is AB if I purchase a 2610AB will I be okay?
My car is a 2003 but the used replacement SLCM is from a 2004 XK8.
The Vin # information they sent me with the part is:
SAJDA41B443A37325

key fob/remote
So the AB suffix on the SCLM isn't relevant ?
Would the vin from my car have any bearing, or as long as the remote matches the used SCLM it'll work ?
You also mentioned keys, previously I was told that even though my keys are "old" they still contain a chip.
Will/Do I need to also replace my keys?

Sorry for any confusion, hope these specifics/car history will clarify.
My car (an 03) is a flood car I'm rebuilding. Apparently it's orientation at the time of the flood basically soaked the trunk(boot!). Water DID NOT get under the dash or into the engine. With the battery hooked up the dash, headlights, tail lights, windows all function. According to the seller if I replaced the SCLM which would require reprogramming I should be able to start the car. I only received the keys which made sense to me since the remote would need to match the new/replacement SCLM. The programmable SCLM I purchased is from a 2004 XK8.
Based on previous post I looked for the VCats sticker & it appears it was drowned along with the SCLM. I can't find or see it anywhere in the trunk.
Graham I believe serendipity has brought you to be my expert guide on a flood car. Could your first post be any more apropos !?! "I'll dip my toe in these very dangerous waters"
