XKR driver door handle

Hi all
My drivers door on my xkr will not open, either by key or fob
the passenger door handle seems to have a mind of its own as it keeps going in & out without doing anything for about 4 times then stops
is there a way of getting the door panel off without opening the door?
does anyone know what can be the problem?

Phil,

Sounds like a Door Module or Door Lock micro switch failure.

The Door Lock has 3 operating rods. Knowing where they are and what they do may help:

1. RED - interior door handle
2. BLUE - exterior door lock
3. GREEN - exterior door handle

Is there any resistance when you operate the door handles or the lock or does it feel as if the operating rods are disconnected / not moving?

I've had a look at the door panel on mine and can't see a way of removing it from a closed door without doing some damage to the moulding.

If you lift off the exterior Door Waist Rail trim, this may give sufficient room to be able to get to the door handle rod and pull on it directly to release the door.

The pic shows my driver's door with the waist rail removed.

Hi Graham

Thanks for the info and pictures
Have tried the removal of the top trim and located the bar you spoke of disconnected it and pulled it manually but still will not open the door? It appears to be permanently in the locked position electronically.
If I manage to get the panel off would i be able to open the door?

Referring to the diagram in post #2, if I pull on the blue arrowed rod (lock lever), it releases the lock. Pulling on the green arrowed rod (door handle) opens the door.

If this doesn't work on yours, there's something up with either the door module or the micro switch inhibiting mechanical operation of the door lock.

The fixings for the door lock are not accessible from inside the door - they are removed from the outer face of the door frame. It seems like you are running out of options and removing the Door Card is looking to be unavoidable. You can get much of this done in the 'normal' way but some force and risk of damage to the panel is a distinct possibility.

Do you have JTIS for the Door Trim Panel Removal procedure?

Graham
