XKR High Level Brake Light Refurb £3.50
I knew my high level light was not working so Decided to take a look at what was wrong with it.
So unclipped the unit and inspected the circuit board all looked ok so I tested all the components and found a bunch of failed resisters.
I thought for a while and weighed up what I could do replace the faulty resisters hmm filddley and the unit is nearly 17 years old.
Then I had an idea I ordered a roll of red 12V waterproof led's for under £3.50 delivered the rest of the parts I had knocking around.
I sanded off the melted plastic holding the original led circuit board in place to remove it keep it you will need the plug later.
I took a A4 spine bar bent it by hand to make a L shape and cut off the extra 1/3 along the length. Then applied some double sided tape to the bottom of the L.
Cut two lengths off my roll of led's the same length as the original circuit board. Solder + to + - to - at one end after cleaning the resin off the contacts I used my dremil with a sanding wheel.
Then cut off cable from your old circuit board and solder red to red black to black I used the cable pre soldered to the length of led's to connect to the cars original plug with a bit of shrink sleeve to cover my join.
And you will end up with this.
I will show a photo of how bright it is in day and night once I get my interior back in.
