RE: Which year did XKRs stop having cam chain tensioner problems?
AJ,
Information provided by Andre Voss (Belgium) reveals that the production commencement of aluminum bodied timing chain tensioners and multi-row timing chains was with engine number 01 08 13 0000. There is no direct correlation between engine number and VIN: however, the engine number is a date code. So engines built after August 13, 2001 are uprated to the latest specification.
Voss is the guy I told you about, and you know where to find him. Tell him I said "Hi".

Where is the engine serial number located--I checked the labels under the hood and did not see anything that looked like the serial number you listed. Is it embedded in the emission label on the drivers side of the engine compartment?
I have an 01 XKR
thanks
Gary

RE: Which year did XKRs stop having cam chain tensioner problems?
Greetings,
The engine number on an '01 is stamped onto a vertical rib on the left (U.S. driver's) side of the engine block. Located just above the steering rack, it is a little difficult to see. Try your droplight under the rack, and look at the side of the block from in front of the suspension crossmember, looking rearwards. The numbers will start with 01 and follow up vertically. Good hunting,
Andrew Bernstein

FJT,
I know the base of the thermostat housing tower, LH side, was the location up to and including 2000. I had read of the change for '01 and later, and found that to be the case on the last '01 motor I looked at. That's as definitive as I can be.
Gary, droplight and you beneath the car, light under the steering rack shining up. That's where it was on the '01 I looked at last week. Look at FJT's location also, it is equally hard to identify but you will see it if it is there on your engine.

Lol I have never looked that hard for them as we do almost everything by vin.
I can give you the engine serial number if the engine has never been changed.
I will let you "hunt" a little more first LOL.
Thanks for setting me straight JTO. None of us knows everything [8/|]
