1957 XKSS displayed in Washington, DC suburb
If you're ever in Washington, D.C., be sure to stop at Clyde's restaurant on Wisconsin Ave in Chevy Chase, Md and have a drink in the downstairs Race Bar where you can drool over the 1957 XKSS that has been on display for decades. It's real, not a replica. The other car on the right side of this picture is a Morgan 3-wheeler.
This photo was taken downstairs; upstairs is a large dining room with an awesome model train that runs around a track that is suspended from the ceiling, plus lots of other transportation-related items including model airplanes and ships and posters. Great fun, not to be missed. And good food, too! https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1374812350 See this link: Clyde's | The City's Favorite Saloons and Restaurants Stuart |
Great to see but what a shame - it should be on the road!
I was surprised to find no information on Clyde's website about the vehicle other than a similar photograph. Graham |
Damn, I've heard of washing-up if you can't pay the bill, but having to leave an XKSS, wow some bill. ;)
Looks like nice place, I wonder if Doug eats there. |
Updating my original post, is a review of Clyde's of Chevy Chase by Trip Advisor: Always good, nice menu - Review of Clyde's of Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase, MD - TripAdvisor

Thanks for sharing, Stuart S! I'll definitely be going by to check out the XKSS next time I'm in the area!

I recently talked about this car with Peter Crespin, the editor of the Jaguar Journal: JCNA's official magazine. Peter knew about the XKSS at Clyde's and stated it is most definitely not an original: it is a REALM reproduction. We were at the International Jaguar Festival standing next to a Lynx XKSS (probably the best recreation of the XKSS aside from the continuation cars Jaguar recently manufactured). Peter knows his D-Types and XKSS's extremely well and unfortunately shared the news that this is not an original XKSS. Still worth a visit to go see it....a great looking car!
