Thanks for the welcome bigdreams05.
There is no wire to hook up to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). I called Kenwood and inquired about that and the tech said that the DNX7100 is the first product of their's that doesn't use the wire. It uses advanced satellite gps tracking technology.
Oh, another thing .... there is no trick to bypass the "in-motion" restriction to use the navigation when the car is moving like Pioneer unit require. There is an option to turn the "safe" mode off.
So what your saying is that even though it is illegal to use the dvd function, you have the option to turn it on and off? I want the Kenwood or the new Clarion but can't decide. The audio shop told me I have to buy a kit to bypass either of them. To me the Kenwood looks better (if you go double din that is) but the Clarion has more factory pre-installed destinations. I don't know much about the VSS wires...didn't even know it had all that.

As far a deciding which to with, I can give reasons why I went with Kenwood.
[ul][*]XM native (I like to listen to O&A)[*]SD card/Flash drive use. DNX7100 has a 3' pigtail with usb connector on the end[*]Expandable to add Bluetooth[*]Expandable to add iPod interface (graphically)[*]Double DIN - I didn't want a radio that would have to open up all the time and run the risk of mechanical failure.[*]Uses the Garmin GXM30 antenna for XM radio/NavTraffic/Weather/Stocks[/ul]I did a lot of research and looking around to find the what I thought to be the best unit available. There probably are a few more reasons, but I can think of them right now.
Hope this helps in your decision making!
Cheers,
Mike

Oh ok, I looked at it a little different. It's a hard decision because I don't know people with those installed. The third I was looking at and the most pricey at 1600.00 is the Eclipse 6610. Double din is a given, anything else kill yourself...j/k. I'm more concerned with actually watching movies while moving, easily switching to NAV mode w/ turn by turnand quality of display. I'm not concerned w/ sd slots and ipod connections. XM radio maybe but not a must have for me. Also the 7100 only has 2GB correct? Others have 10, 15, 30.

RE: AFTERMARKET RADIO???
Correct. The HD is only 2gb. My guess that the other units have more space is because you can burn mp3 or whatever to the portion that the navigation isn't using. I'm not aware of being able to burn anything but navigational information to the internal HD. The SD slot is for map and software updates that are issued by either Kenwood or Garmin. The iPod thing...don't have one.
As far as the turn-by-turn, rerouting, POI's, it does a very good job at it all. Now I can't speak for other manufacture's unit's aside from Pioneer, but most of the nav units out there will require you to find and connect to the VSS wire (vehicle speed sensor). Pioneer needs it, but the unit I have doesn't - which is nice when going thru the install motions. I purchased mine for $951 shipped. Plus, I added PAC's SWI-X that allows me to use the Jag's steering wheel radio controls.

RE: AFTERMARKET RADIO???
I ca dig it. I was told on other models you can actually burn movies and watch them. In that case the SD slot would come in handy as far as easing the pain. I wasn't sure if the 7100 had turn by turn or not. Only $951.00 w/ shipping? From what site and to where? How much was installation? The only problem seems to be not being able to bypass safe mode.

He is a really fast shipper and great to deal with. I also purchased Square Trade's 3yr warrenty for it - something like $92. I did the install as I really don't trust anyone elses work. And the bypass mode, well works for the navigation part like I mention - anything else like dvd play - not sure yet.
I'm enjoying it - especially now that I added the compart bin box where my original nav screen was.
