Our stories are similar! So it boils down to a one owner car in a sense. However I spent double what you did and I am still ok with that with only 15k on her! I could have bought 3 used ones with 90k plus on the clock but this one was just to sweet to pass by. (knock on wood!)

il get some pics of my x type
i have replaced the oil and filter and swapped tires . gone through three CD ex changers ex change gearbox and an upgrade, replaced the sills , because this motor had been stood for three years, hence the price 5,000 pounds, so it stands at about 8,000 pounds to me.
so its just regular running costs now
as i have a supply of parts at my local scrap yard who have three x types in

My 2004 with 147K and still going!
I bought my 2004 X-Type 3.0 back in 2006. At the time it only had 19,000 miles on it and I paid 18,500 for it. Today, I have 147K on her and she still runs like a champ...albeit, starting to show some signs of age (headliner keeps falling near rear window, sunroof is temperamental at the switch, and has the occassional engine "chug-a-chuga" when reving at that sweet spot between gears). I keep to a pretty regular maintenence schedule and really the only thing that seems to plague me is tires...seems I always get a flat or two in the winters here...

Just bought an '05 like dangwang's except a gray interior. 105,000 miles, paid 5000.
Belonged to my boss for the last 8years, and I did most of the maintenance and repairs on it.
Knew it'd been taken care of and driven by a conservative guy and his wife so I jumped on it. For the wife, mainly, but it is NICE.

My 2006, 146800 kms
I bought this car this year January. It had 122 000kms. Now has 146 800kms on the clock. Bought it from old couple in Cape Town. Well kept. I have since changed front suspension. Coolant container. Starter twice (because they misdiagnosed petrol pump failure). Petrol pump and filter. Overall, I am happy with the car. Now that I have seen the 'worst', I am thoroughly enjoying it. It is reliable. I just need to spoil it with good service.
PS: I am consoled when I see people with over 300 000 miles. Here in South Africa, once a car reaches 100 000kms people quickly get rid of it. I love what I see elsewhere in the world. Shall keep it till wheels fall off.

Miles on X-type
183466 miles, Best car I have ever owned. Changed front wheel bearings and only 1 set of new brakes, Changed the Rear Control arms due to unable to adjust the camber on the tires, to the Volvo adjustable control arms. Other than oil changes, tires, brakes and the front bearings, I have put no money into repairs. Bought it as a lease return in 2005 and have been driving ever since.
However the front door body posts are rusting due to the salt on MN Roads, so will be having to change it out fairly soon. Any body else have that problem?

Sold my 2.0D manual in 2009 with 35k (dealer made a brilliant offer on facelifted 2.2D auto). New owner used the car for business trips across Western Europe from Urals to Germany. Talked to him last summer, the car reached 220k mi and still was his favorite choice for long distance runs. All maintainance and repairs were carried out by Ford dealers - many of them, but not expensive. Regarding Jaguar longevity a friend of mine owns XF 3.0D with 125kilomiles. He had a gearbox replaced (under warranty, luckily). No significant issues except this.

You are not alone; the A-Pillar problem is well documented on the
forum. I took the route of having new outer frame rails and A-Pillar "stubs" welded into my '03 simply because it was the only thing wrong with an otherwise wonderful 10 year old car. $3,000.00, but it was worth it. 210,000 km on it now, and it is still my car of choice for the trip to Florida and back. As reliable as they come! Don't give up on yours just yet.

Bought a 2001 3 litre X type SE automatic yesterday - passed 69000 today - amazed how quickly I adapted to an automatic as I had never driven one before but I was still stamping on an imaginary clutch pedal and grabbing the gear stick every time I came to a junction for the first 20 minutes

209000 miles.
replaced the clutch, the transfer case, the TPS switch, rebuilt the wiring harness on the injectors (long story), replaced all intake seals and hoses, a few sets of tires, a couple of A/C compressors, replaced the headliner, fixed the headlight adjusters (lens off this last time) and buffed the hell out of the lenses, replaced the starter, and redid the rear suspension bushings.
Instead of finding a factory radio with bluetooth, I put in an aftermarket system.
I bought the car with 94000 miles on it in August of 2011, it's my favorite car of all the cars I have ever owned.
After five and a half years of ownership, I learned how to operate the fog lights.... LOL
