Default Center Console Latch PITA

Hello again!

I want to express my sincere gratitude for all the information I have acquired scouring this amazing forum. Since I am a newbie here, I can't offer much advice as this is my first Jag. But am learning fast!

The center console latch on my 2008 XJ VDP was broken. I ordered the replacement part on line. It is part number C2C34128. I'm sure this is simple, but I have no clue how to install this. My technical skill level is moderate having worked on my MOST/D2B system, but this seems to be so simple, it's maddening! The place that sold me the part never responded to my inquiry re installation

Here are some pics of the console and part.

Any advice is deeply appreciated. I know my local dealer would charge the one hour minimum labor $165 for popping in a $15 part. Want to avoid this.

Cheers all,
Chris

Default Easy peasy

I did change mine long time ago. There is a sponge like rubber thing that goes in the plastic latch and acts like a spring to keep it depressed.

There are two notches on the plastic latch that go in the metal shafts on the console - just press it and it will latch on.

I found the TSB about the latch.

Ah, the sponge thing is next to the quarter on your picture.

Reporting back. I tried to find a way to slide out the plate which seems to hold the foam pad. There is nothing there to pull out. The clips do not snap on to the two metal bars in the lid. It just rocks on them, without locking into place. This entire console lid seems to have been replaced at some point, as there is install plastic on the hinges on the rear of the unit. Any additional advice? I'm totally puzzled. I read the TSB and I cannot find the sled the rubber sits on.

Thanks!
C

Default Resolved

Finally got it. The latch has to be snapped in using an extreme amount of force. Didn't want to break it initially, but after using major pressure, it snapped in. Wow. Thanks so much!!!
