Cutter---
That's great. That gives us four (4). Me, the one in Georgia, the lost to another buyer (black) and now you.
If my assumption about how they split them up (100 Conv and 100 Coupe's), we have only 96 to go. :-)

I have another: Platinum convertible with black top and black interior. Besides the carbon fiber dash and J-gate surround and Alcantara seat and door panels, they have a leather "R" steering wheel and shift knob, as well as steel (aluminum?) pedals. No exterior ID. I have noticed my driver's seat is starting to pill a bit from me dragging my *** across it. Not a big deal, as the pills can easily be pulled off.

The carbon edition was partially the inspiration for my interior. I looked at it for my seat colors and door inserts. My XF was the dash fascia inspiration. I looked for a year to find a carbon interior trim set but when I did it was over 3000.00. New old stock never used! How limited is the 2005 Carbon Fiber Edition?-image.jpg
I've since added a piano black center shifter and steering wheel.

I can-not find anything that indicates mine is a 1 of 200 special addition, but it would seem that with the correct VIN number supplied by the owner, Jaguar would be nice enough to issue something reconizing them as so----but who knows. Maybe the cars came with something when new and the previous owners removed it as a keep sake.

I wrote Jaguar Heritage, but they said "Sorry" they reply only for cars 10 years or older. Damn, I missed it by three months...........
I don't know if Jaguar will recognize the Carbon Fiber Editions through the Heritage Trust., but they did recognize the Silverstone so there is a good chance they will list the Carbon Fiber Edition. When I applied for the certificate they Listed it as a 2001 XKR Silverstone. The cars have to be at least 10 years old to get a certificate and you have to supply the vin. number, engine number, body number, and transmission number. You'll also need proof of ownership.

Thanks pal, we are now up to five (5). Sounds like your's is a "Carbon" copy of mine, except for the interior.

See my inserts.

Phil - Very cool dash. I absolutely love seats with contrasting piping! My 1990 XJ40 had oatmeal seats with sorta maroon piping. I would sometimes just sit in the car and admire the inside for a few minutes, especially at night with the courtesy lights on.

Doug - Will you reapply in January? Or is it based on the actual date of manufacture? In Connecticut they issue a special plate when your car is 25 years old, and you no longer have to pay property tax on it (yeah, we're taxed each year on cars and boats). Dopey thing is, the plate is white and shows what I think is a Model A and it says Early American. Most of the cars I see running around with that plate are NOT American-made. I fully expect to keep my XK8 that long (assuming I'm still around), but I don't think I could bring myself to hang such an ugly and inappropriate plate on it.

I think your referring to the Heritage Certificate, In Illinois we can get a personalized plate for a higher fee (Mine is "HOT CAT") The registration fees run about $100.00 to $110.00, personalized plates are higher. They issue a antique plate but it has quite a few restrictions

To be eligible for antique plates, your vehicle must be more than 25 years old, and look the same as it did when it was manufactured. Vehicles that are exact replicas of the original model are also acceptable. The vehicle must be as safe to drive as it was originally.
The plates will need to be renewed every 5 years. You can personalize the plates for an additional fee.
When these plates are on the vehicle, you may only drive to and from antique exhibitions and demonstrations, or to obtain repair work.
If you have the vehicle's original model-year plates, you may display them as long as the antique plates and registration are inside the vehicle.

Below is a post about the Certificate and other info about window stickers and invoices.

Exclusively Jaguar in England took care of the Silverstone Registery a few years ago. There was about 500 produced and they only got about forty registered. The vin numbers are staggered through out the run. Of the forty cars registered they were able to divide between the first 100 for England and the remainder. I don't know how easy it would be to get many owners to know about any kind of registry for their cars

Just checked the Connecticut DMV site, as I had never looked into the antique plates, as I never had the need. Pleased to see that they have discontinued that ugly, often-inappropriate style plate and the new plates will look like a standard CT plate, except they will say Classic Car across the bottom. Such cars must be at least 20 years old and are valued at no more than $25 for tax purposes. The plates can be done as vanity plates for an additional $96 fee.

Did you drop the "0" between the C and the 5?
Anyway, our number's are off by 233. My #'s are all mirrowed to your's, except the last three are "729". My car was one of the first Carbon Fiber's built---7/04. Didn't realize they built them that far ahead, but when you consider the new car's come out in Sept or Nov., I guess they have to.

Stamford,
Missed your question about a front plate.
Front plate? What front plate? Not needed in Florida. Guess they figure that if they need the number's, they'll be chasing you, not the other way around. Never have figured out why state's/ countries, want a front plate. My home state of Texas requires one, and although I asked many times, no one really knew. Guess it keeps the inmates busy a little longer. Any one of you in the government end have a real answer?

CFE and all 05 Carbon Fiber owners.

I said in my first post about the CF cars, that I had read somewhere that there were 200 made and that 100 were Convertibles and 100 were Coupe's. I still haven't been able to find out where, (but I'm still re-reading everything). However, I have found proof that 200 cars were made for the US market to commemorate Trans-Am racing successes. The article is in the (now escalating prices---WOW!) "you & your Jaguar XK8" by Nigel Thorley, on page 91 under "Introducing carbon fiber" last paragraph.

Don't know if it's still available, but the Brits got special incentives when Jaguar first offered the CF model (100) copies (not available to us US guys) commemorating the same thing. Seems like Jaguar offered potential buyers a free holiday, special limited edition brochures and a holiday sweetie (not really on the sweetie) to buy one. So if the brochures are still around, they were 42 pages long and the IDENTITY CODE was "J5213".

Still on the search for the 100 verts and 100 coupes article. If and when I find it I'll post same.

PS: When I purchased my copy of Nigel's book, it listed for S29.95. I think I purchased it from Amazon for $19.95 (New) I just checked Amazon and now (NEW is $227.96)---(USED $130.00). That's why I put the WOW in my note above. May be the value price of the cars will get the idea........

Default Carbon fiber dash

We have one of these. I would enclose a picture but it looks like yours, Chuck.
The only difference is I see the guages in the center dash and we have the navigation system. Color is the silver platinum.
This one is listed as a 2006 XK8 and was in Tampa coming through Crown Jaguar. My wife wasn't sure about the carbon fiber look at first. She really liked it after seeing it in person. She said pictures don't show the dash as it really is.

Serial number last numbers are 44941.

We are in south Georgia.

I'm not in government, but I imagine the reason they would tell you is that it's for your own good. Here in Connecticut, we didn't used to need a front plate. Then one day, we magically did.
