Production Numbers?
#23
Does anyone know how many right hand drives; how many imported to the US or any other production stats not already shown. I have to admit I'm a bit smug with my car's rarity. Only about 9,700 R coupes were built, and maybe only 4-5,000 imported here. I think more coupes were sold in the UK and Europe because of the fowl weather; and based on commentary in the XK8 Sporting Icon book about the "rarity of convertibles" in the UK. Thus my guess the percentage of coupes exported was less than the percentage of converts. So for a "production car" that is rare; not as rare as an Aston Martin, but exclusive enough for a middle class working man's (now retired) income level.

Didn't Jaguar use the same 4.2 in the latest generation? If so then I would think if you have an 03 or later you should be pretty well set up. With that said....I have owned a few classics and you find that you become a parts hoarder. You spend as much time collecting cataloging and storing parts as you do with the car. So if you are going to think that far ahead with your XK, if you ever find yourself at the re-cycler and he has an xk in the yard, think to yourself, "What else could I need in the future?"

I sold my 1997 Sapphire Blue XK-8 coupe and was in a sense stricken because it was such a mistake. I immediately began a tireless pursuit for another one. Thank GOD I found one but it still needed a lot of work to get it up to snuff. I wont part with this Coupe. I heard less than ten percent of the Coupes came to the USA. These cars are super rare. Stunning as they are, I learned and wont part with mine. Anthracite metallic BLACK/Coffee interior. Made October 1996.

The lady who emissions tested my car said she wants to find one! Good Luck with that....as Dr Phil says, hows that working out for you. You either have to buy these cars sight unseen or FLY a lot. And have a BIG wallet. I bought mine sight unseen, I DON'T recommend that. But at the same time this is an emotional car, and I HAD to have it. Im not sorry as the car is a traffic stopper. Sleek and smooth as glass. My plate says: I Detail perfect for my business, as I do no advertising. My cars are always spotless. I wont drive a dirty car. EVER.

If I ever sell this car, personally call me to tell me how I just sold one of the finest or the finest looking automobiles on the road. Like I said no econo-eggs for me. Give me relentless styling that exudes lush beauty around every curve that you just cant take your eyes off of. People don't even know what the Jag is half the time. Its my Coupe in my garage. I also have my 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible that is the Jags garage mate. I hope they dont make babies, but an XK-e would be nice.

In the 7 years (1999 (2000 in US) to 2006 (2005 in UK)) that x100 XKRs were manufactured, only 9600 coupes were produced. Of these, about 5000 were imported into the US. I am certain that a few of these kitties have spent all 9 lives and are in kitty heaven now. So yes, the coupes are very rare.
