I checked the site, April 27 is correct. Looks like fun, the stars may align, allowing me an opportunity to attend but I need to see how the week shapes up.

Although I'm "catless" now, I'll come by to give support. I might even find a cool new d.d.

I will definitely try to stop by and am also considering paying the $20 for a space. The only reservation is devoting the entire day hanging around sitting with the car. Not that I would mind it but I know someone who would, if you get my drift.

Hey Ted! I'm hanging in there. I now have a 69 Duetto sharing space with my 69 Berlina. Been keeping an eye half open for a 96-97 XJRs. So far nothing has surfaced in the area worth looking at.

Hey George,
I've got a story about a 2010 XKR that will most likely end up in my garage in the next month or two. I'll give you a call later.

Hope to see all of you there. I'm registered and ready to go. It's too bad what looks like the 2010 XKR coupe that I will probably acquire once the engine is rebuilt won't be ready in time to attend. But I will be modifying it somewhat as well, if everything goes as planned. My 2002 will be in attendance, ready for action.

Hey Ted--what's the story with the 2010? The engine needs to be rebuilt?!

I am close to registering versus just dropping by but what happens at these things? Do you guys basically just get there at opening and hang out all day?

Hey Doug,
Last year (my only other time there, Tirefriar (George) and I showed up real early (actually, we were the first ones there, parked our cars, and then walked around and looked at all of the other cars and vendors at the show. We left in the early afternoon when we were finished looking around. I don't believe there are any requirements that you stay any specific amount of time. Hope to see you there for at least a little while. I registered yesterday.

The key is to get there around 7:30 or so. Park close to the entryway/registration point. That way you can check out all the cars coming in. If you display your car a) will support the event organization and b) show your jag and answer interesting questions. Last time Ted and I were there, we saw Jay Leno pull up in his Bristol. You get see many cool cars and speak with their owners. The show begins to wind down at about 1 pm, but you can leave at any time you want.

Ted, can't wait to hear about the XKR, especially about the mods

Hey Tirefriar et al--am getting closer to actually "committing" but I don't usually do that early on the weekend (particularly on Sunday). Is it really necessary to get there at 7:30 to get a space of will I still get a decent space coming later as long as I register?

Thanks,

Doug

Hi, I posted this event in the CA events section, trying to see who will be showing up. First-time Jaguar owner here and would like to meet some local members. I guess I will be on the lookout for some XKs?

Hey Doug,
No reason to be so early, we just didn't know what to expect so George and I showed up early. There was plenty of room, it's supposed to be fun, come when you feel like it, we'll see you whenever.

The story about the 2010 XKR in capsulated form is this:
My 2002 XKR vert is rapidly approaching 150,000 miles, and although it looks and drives like new, I'd like to extend its life by not putting 20-25 thousand miles on it every year. So I have been perusing ads for 5.0L coupes, figuring I could also take it to the track a couple of times per year rather than my Pantera (which is just a little too old for some of the venues without power steering and a gearbox that takes both hands and both eyes to shift with any speed through the "Ferrari" style gate.) I saw a local car that had a lot of mileage (68K) but looked nice. I asked the owner to bring the car to my mechanic so we could scope it. It coded an errant cam sensor like I replaced on my 2002 a week or so earlier. But, my mechanic said that he could tell by the sound of the engine that the car would throw a rod soon. The owner, after getting over the shock, remembered that he had purchased an extended insurance policy, and contacted them. They are paying to have an engine that has 6K miles on it sent to my mechanic for installation. Or, it appears that a single pair of rod bearings created the problem, and I am awaiting today or tomorrow a set, about $20 in parts. We may put the original engine back together or install the "new" one. Either way, it will be almost a new car. We have already agreed upon a price I can live with especially on one with a new or newly rebuilt engine. I plan on doing the pulley upgrade, the Mina RS side skirts, and a really great looking rear bumper/diffuser from a company in Chicago. It's a little presumptuous until everything is put back together, but I think it will happen in the next three or four weeks.

I may have a 5.0L engine for sale soon. Anyone interested?
