Default Steering wheel audio buttons ?

I got a kenwood dvd,cd,mp3 player installed in my 01 S-type and the steering wheel buttons work fine..Except when the headlights are on..The volume and track up button dont work the mute and select and track down button work when the lights are on but the track up and volume dont work when the headlights are on..

Any ideas...

Take it back to your installer.

The aftermarket steering wheel adapters are programmable. They sense different voltages when different buttons are pressed. When the headlights are on, the voltages vary slightly due to the changing loads in the wiring. He may need to adjust the switching points.

In addition to wrong propramming, it could have been grounded inapproriately.

First off make sure he grounded the adapter directly to the chassis, not some ground wire feeding another accessory.

Actually the unit self learns the switching points (the voltages the interface senses when different buttons are pressed) if he set it up correctly. Since it works, I would primarily suspect the grounding.

Something else the installer asked was if the buttons light up correctly when the lights are on...Which I checked tonight and they do..Any thoughts on that?

Thanks...Gary
