Nice job on the interior Delta....I love the Autoglym vinyl and rubber dressing. works great on the door rubbers too!
The exhaust doesn't look too bad either, but you could try some autosol with some fine wet n dry sandpaper and then polish to a high shine? That should really do the trick for you.
Looks like a great detail all round, the engine bay is lovely n clean too. I usually give mine a quick once over every wash to help keep it that way.
Thanks for the complements. MOtOrmOuth, we had a good thread going on the diesel and it would appear they will not be coming to the US. In the UK they now outsell the petrol. The X Type is only available as a diesel and the smaller engines on the XF and new XJ are diesel only.
I just went through this on my 06 XK8. I wish I had taken pictures along each step of the way. I wasn't sure how the it was going to turn out on a 16 year old paint job. I do have pictures when I first purchased the vehicle and I will go take some after I put on a second ceramic coat tomorrow (oh, later today). I really didn't expect much, but a friend in the neighborhood told me I should give it a try, so I did. I read up on it a bit, and watched a bunch of youtube videos. I am shocked, seriously shocked at how well it changed the appearance of the car. I, like most folks, think/thought ceramic coatings are for "new" cars with perfect paint jobs.
Here is what I did; 1) jet foam washed the car 2) wiped down the car 3) Clay Barred the entire body 4) Polished the entire body 5) Cleaned windows, mirrors, wheels and all plastic 6) Ceramic coated the entire car (body, wheels, plastic, windows and mirrors)
Here are some of the products I used: FOAM WASH

Chief, I’m salivating to see some pics! I just acquired a California XKR and the clearcoat had that ‘Slight Sunlight Haze’ . Thus, I’m tooling up and trolling posts looking for process/products/ and experience as I’m about to detail/polish the black ebony exterior. You just provided all the answers for me; thank you. Please post a few pics, I think I am sitting on a ‘jem’ once polished/buffed:-)
A good rinse, a turtle wax detergent wash, a fresh coat of Meguiar’s Gold Glass Carnauba Plus Premium Liquid Wax and some Mequiar’s Tire dressing on the Michelin X-Ice snow tires, all done inside of course.
She was then moved outside to rinse the garage floor as it was a balmy -8 degrees Celsius (a nice improvement from last weeks -38 Celsius deep freeze).
She won’t look like this for long but it’s always nice to know she still cleans up good.
The XE was covered in a thick layer of dust after sitting in storage for a couple of months, so it needed some attention, in this case a rinse-less wash. I actually decided to rinse the car with a hose beforehand, giving the tires a quick scrub with P&S Undressed.
This pre-rinse step is not always needed for rinse-less washing, but I felt the car was just a bit beyond what I was comfortable with in terms of the amount of dirt on the car.
The car was then brought back into the garage and then rinse-less washed with P&S Absolute.
I use the multiple towel method, folding and flipping to a clean side often and never re-introducing the towel back into the bucket. This keeps the cleaning solution clean, which in turn keeps the towels clean, which overall helps to minimize micro-marring.
I love my 2 Jags so much that I make it a weekly ritual to ensure they are always clean and protected from the elements when not covered. These 4.2 Liter beasts deserve to always look their best!
My favorite products come from Chemical Guys, Meguiars and Turtle Wax.
