restore a Collector Car versus leaving it alone
just picked up a 1965 e type coupe, same owner for 30 years and its been stored for the last 10, it reads 86k ,question is restore it or sell as is sits, I eventually want to trade for a Porsche 911
Does it run? What kind of shape is it in? Rusty, etc?
Define "restore", please. A true ground-up resto on an E-type usually tops $100,000 but for some people "restore" mean just hitting the high points.
If you bought it right and it just needs a few thousand spent to make it roadworthy and presentable you could come on on top. If it's in poor shape then you've probably stepped into a money pit....especially if there's much rust
"Original" cars are desirable ......if they're still in decent shape. Not necessarily perfect, mind you, but still running and looking good.
Cheers

Agreeing with everything Doug wrote...the idea of having the car original yet drive-able is appealing. Even better for my own taste is keeping the body and interior original while really dialing in the mechanical. But then that is probably impractical unless one loves the car and wants to keep it around.
Welcome to the forum sunnyosoyoos,
Only restore it if you want to keep it and drive it. A restoration is an equation of [Time + Skill + Money]. The more you can do personally, the less you have to pay someone else with the necessary skills. If the aim is to trade for a 911, save yourself the effort and sell.

Thank you all, I'm a large size man so I cant see myself fitting in it. Maybe I'll let someone with more know-how take it , I would love to see her make it back to UK
haven't started her up yet, don't see the point of it, after 10 years why not wait.
We are in the desert here so rust is no problem. thanks for making me feel welcome
