Anyone install puddle lights on a MY2016 or newer?
I bought a set from eBay after seeing them mentioned in a few threads. The lights themselves look nice, but they don't fit my car... comparing it with the OEM light housing, there's a slot missing in the side, which would allow it to fit past a small tab in the hole in the door sill:

I ran into the same issue on mine. I just sawed off the little tab with serrated blade.
They fit fine after that. No issues, weren't loose etc. I even went back to the OEM after awhile and they still fit tight and fine. |
The ones I bought off eBay fit my 2016 just fine as well.

2016 v6s first thing I did was install Growler puddle lights they fitted no issue. I have noticed though a lot of sellers mentioning no fiit for f TYPE on jaguar logo puddle lights
|
How about some photos and links to where you purchased the lights. Please
|
Mine also fit easily with no issues, but there are a few different styles available on eBay.

I bought a set with just the leaper and logotype, no enclosing circle. Maybe there’s a correlation with the light graphic and whether or not the housing has the slot. |
I'd love to find a set that showed only the leaper.
Has anyone seen this? Failing that I'd just get a set like like fuzzysquid got and see if I could block the logotype somehow. Unsure if feasible. |
Has anyone with a MY 2018 installed any after market puddle lights.

This is the set that I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-LED-Door...e/132419919546
I tried to file a notch into the plastic housing but the problem is the aluminum portion of the light is the full width of the opening, so there's really no way of making this work unless I remove the tab from the door sill, as MI-FType did. I may end up just doing that... |

There seem to be two style lights generally available right now, the red growler and the leaper I have. I’m really only interested in the leaper, and the actual unit appears identical across sellers so I presume they will all have the fitment issue.
I removed the tab from my door sill, because its purpose AFAICT seems solely to prevent older lights without the slot from being installed, eg it doesn’t secure the light/have a functional purpose. I’m not too concerned about somehow screwing up my car. I’m undecided if I’ll keep it long term but here it is: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...ebe631d1d.jpeg Next project: swap out the footwell halogen lights for white led’s... |
Oh and one thing to note for anyone considering led projection puddle lights is that the oem halogens stay lit for a minute or so after the doors are closed, and actually provide a significant amount of light in the cabin.
The led replacements don’t provide nearly as much light and do so in a single small spot on the sill |
I swapped out the footwell lights for bright white LEDs years ago and they are still going strong.
But be warned they are a PITA to get at, you need to be an 80 lb contortionist which I most definitely ain't. Short of taking the seats right out the only way is to squirm under the dash on your back, poke your head under and shine a torch in there to locate the little blighters, then once you know exactly where they are you can go by feel the rest of the way. I simply could not get eyes and fingers on at the same time, it was one or t'other. Tip - opening a door turns them on so turn them off by touching the middle light, otherwise you will burn your fingers! |

Was there a trick to getting the bulb in? I removed the halogen without much trouble (just pulled straight out) but I’m having a really hard time putting the led in. Tried replacing the halogen but that’s difficult too
Then while memorising that angle squirm back out a bit, grab your LED, and while touching/holding the socket with one hand insert the globe with the other. You may have to turn/twist/twiddle the globe a little before it lines up correctly with the socket, just persevere and you will get there! |
Success!
Pretty big difference in color temperature (led on right). The yellow of the halogens always bugged me: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...289b605be.jpeg |

Unlike my two XFs where there wasn't an LED in sight and every single goddam globe desperately needed to be replaced! |
I installed blue LEDs in the footwells, and thought they were too blue. Installed red, and thought they were too dark, and they didn't match the (default) blue ambient lighting. Went back to blue, but would like a "whiter" color of blue...
Below is the red. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...9affa832ed.jpg And the blue: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...afb6718050.jpg |
Hey Tork, if you want a "whiter" colour of blue look on Fleabay for "ice blue" LEDs, literally millions of listings.
They almost perfectly match the bluer shades of the F-Type interior lighting. I tried all sorts of colours in my XFR (where the factory default lighting scheme was "phosphor blue" in Jag-speak), including the intense blue you have tried and bright white, and I settled on ice blue in the rear roof lights, front main light and foot well lights (with bright white in the front reading lights) as the best set up. |
For as often as I drive my car around with the door open, the footwell lighting color really isn't an issue for me.

On the contrary, I always found yellow light to be warm and comfortable, and white light from LEDs or fluorescents to be harsh and unflattering to most objects.
To each their own. |

To each their own. I also have a half-baked theory that us "more mature" owners with failing eyesight find the stock yellow lights too dull to be much use and the brighter whiter LEDs enable us to see things a lot better. My garage is almost pitch black this time of year (winter here in Oz) and I need all the help I can get getting into the car. Yep, half-baked, but I wonder if it has a touch of truth to it? |
Personally the lack of consistency shat me. White under the door, yellow in the footwell, blue (changeable) on the handle, blue (non changeable) on the doors. it's like a friggin rainbow in these cars. I changed everything to ice blue which is a bit morgue-ish (but awesome if you are a fan of the Borg), and am only annoyed when I change to dynamic and have red in some places and blue in others.

I may not drive with the door open (well not often!) but the horrible dull sickly yellow light of the el cheapo OEM footwell globes annoyed the bejeebus out of me every time I opened a door, they really did downgrade the interior appearance IMHO, so they had to be replaced with bright white LEDs asap.

Don't let the naysayers get you down, Oz, some of them are influenced by their SWMBOs.

You old farts still can drive at night? I avoid driving at night as much as I can.

My wife feeds me so many carrots that I grew a cotton tail and long ears.

What kind of base must the foot well bulb have to be compatible? Anyone have a link to one that works?

But smaller/shorter ones like COB will be easier to fit than SMD or Cree which tend to be a bit longish. |
