Default The Definitive Android 10.25” Retrofit Thread

Hi guys since this is being discussed on multiple threads, I thought it’s best we have a dedicated thread for all the info we can find - as this may be a game changer for those of us who have been complaining about lack of tech

there are 2 videos I’ve found online, both in the same lhd car. From the videos is looks like they have replicated the oe screens pre in control pro, the question though is if they have replicated them all, including all the ambient settings, dynamic screen etc

and here is a link to purchase the system in what I assume is lhd, there is no mention of rhd being offered

Hi guys!

Install video is here. I did a usage video as well, but then changed some stuff around and learned a bit more about the unit - so I will do that one tomorrow with my lessons learned. Installing the unit is pretty straight forward so it's not a very long watch! Took a long time to compile on my laptop, however.

Another video showing more oe screens replicated, including the home screen and ambient lighting - I think we’re getting somewhere now

Towards end of video he shows a dongle coming out of back of screen that gives you the full Apple carplay

and same setup narrated in english

Not understanding why there could be a difference for lhd and rhd?
Also if it’s Android how come Apple CarPlay is available?
Can it link to iPhone?
How to know if present screen is resistive or capacitive?

The face plate and chassis will need to be different lhd vs rhd as the whole centre stack is angled differently

there is a dongle that allows full Apple car play off your iPhone, so you can use both android or apple

i would assume it’s branded as android because it provides a full open platform to import any apps you like, not just those approved by Apple

The model listed on Aliexpress is listed for F-Type 2016 to 2018:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MERR...UaAgEwEALw_wcB

But I wrote to them and they responded, telling me that they do have the model for 2014-2015. You have to send them pictures and information to verify which model you need.

Good find

im a bit concerned about seeing the gps antenna, speaker, mic hardware in the listing

i would have hoped it used the oe hardware for all that, or maybe they supply that hardware for people who don’t have gps or bt phone

I agree. But that might not apply to the F-type. The kit might cover multiple configurations. In one of the install videos, we see all the F-type plugs being re-connected. One of those as to be the GPS

I’ve got Jenny from merryway on email now, I asked where are the climate zone and vehicle dynamic screens

they replace the climate quadrant with the mirror link

Are you saying you can no longer play with the climate settings on screen?

the climate stuff doesn't bother me at all, but I'm very curious about the Dynamic and Meridian audio settings. I'm also curious how well the English is translated. Someone may need to be a guinea pig...

I would also like to know what happens re parking sensors and reversing cameras, are these automatically overlayed rather than having to select ?

Yeah... I use the side buttons quite a bit, so I'd be annoyed (if I needed to press three clicks to call up the front sensors when parking, for example). Another use is to call up the NAV screen when the radio screen is displayed.

AGREED we need a guinea pig. GoFundMe page? LOL
I'm leery of too many virtual buttons, weren't they the source of most reviewers' gripes about JLRs electronic interfaces?????

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the new circuit boards just bolt up to your existing existing HU? So if any angling exists, it would remain intact.

The Velar in my garage doesn't have the physical buttons and I don't miss them when I drive it. The buttons show up along the bottom, on the screen (as seen in the video). It's still one click operation.

I saw in one of the videos that with the parking sensors you get 2 screens at the same time. So the back camera and on the side, the drawing of the car with the sensors. If it works like that, it would be better than what I have now.

From what I saw in the video it seems you have to move the boards from your existing HU to the Android one. So the angling would be significant.

That is what I saw as well. And all the factory plugs get connected back. So, all the factory sensors should be working.

And it looks like the software displays the inputs in a better fashion. This looks very promising.
