True, though there is virtually no wheel spin in first in the V6S auto, even on a hardish launch, but then I get a bit of wheel spin coming into second, but the dts doesnt interfere anywhere near to the same extent as it did in the XKR. So in the V6S at least I am easily getting to 100kph/60mph in second. I think first is likely to redline at 60kph plus (40mph-ish), though I change up well before it gets to that.

I find the f type V6S is quicker than the XKR 5 litre, but my driving skills (or lack of them) has a bit to do with that.

Seriously? If the tyres are cold any level of acceleration above grandpa level in 1st has endless wheel spin in mine.

While I cannot find any full road tests of a base model, I found two Car & Driver tests of the V6S. They did 0-60 with an auto in 4.3 seconds, and a 12.9 quarter mile. The factory claim is 4.8 for the 0-60. They also did 0-60 in a manual in 4.9, and a quarter mile in 13.4. The factory claim is 5.3 for 0-60. So, are the 0-60 factory times .4 or .5 slower than a road test? Or just conservative, with a 2nd gear start? Or actually 0-100 kph, which is 62 mph? My base auto "feels" quicker than 5.1 seconds.

Based on a lot review tests it would appear that Jaguar's stated 0-60 times are conservative by .4 to .5 secs. on all variants. It could be that the times they are posting are based on tests in normal, automatic driving mode with all of the nannies activated. The air temp, humidity and barometric pressure in which they conduct the tests as well as the engine temperature are also huge factors.

Good example is the C&D test of the V8 R where they logged a 0-60 time of 3.4 sec. (while Jaguar states 3.9). The test was conducted in Michigan in November when it's cold and dry with temps typically around 45 degrees. I live in Michigan and love driving my car in the fall. These cars respond really well to cold air.

The gearing may be different again on the manual, but on the auto V6S you might need third to reach 60.

I say this as the base V6 auto would be somewhere North of 7000rpm in 2nd at 60mph.

Yep, though that isnt in sport, and maybe I squeeze it on more gently now after a few years of the XKR. And I dont tend to hit it hard until I've been driving for a few minutes, so possibly the tyres are warmer.

I think 1st would redline well before that. I accidentally hit the rev limiter in 1st once (coming out of pit lane on a track) - thought I was in 2nd. It sounds like a machine gun, and not in a good way. :)

You might be right, I watched when I gave it some beans last night and changed up about 45kph, though that wasnt near the redline.
