I dont really know that the previous gen XK could be called a proper 2+2. I had a 5.0 XKR before the F Type and the back of my seat was about an inch or less from the front of the back seat, the only way to fit anyone in the back was to slide the front passenger seat forward as far as it would go. I think the second row was more aptly described on the forum as a "leather lined parcel shelf".

That said, it was an absolutely lovely car to drive as a 2 seater with the convenience of being able to put files and things into the back seats when needed. Having driven the current XJR it was more like that to drive than the F Type, but there's nothing wrong with that as I thought the XJR to be quite gorgeous to drive.

I had an XKR and loved it.. but love the F type R a little more. Will be interesting to know what the 2019 F type will feature.

The F and the XK are clearly in different segments. There is a little overlap but not much. More interesting to me is a gen two F in 2019. I wouldn’t have expected it.
