Where to put front license plate on the F-Type? (US-MA)

Massachusetts road laws requires that vehicles need to have license tags on both the rear and front. Would anyone know the best way to get a placard/frame without ruining the grill? Okay he front-facing tag is currently being held by zip-ties haha.

I do not think you have any real options unless you choose to play the hide and seek game with the front plate hide-away.
Apart from the fact it is illegal, you will have a problem each time you approach a highway toll.

I chose to make

the most of my front plate!!

Very nice! What type of plate bracket is that?

Not sure - it came pre-attached to the new car, so preumably is a standard JLR part.
Unfortunately, given multiple comments from others on the forum (usually about removing the plate holder!!), it seems it is not so easy to remove, so may be just as tricky to install.
Just do not even think about simple screwing the plate onto a body panel, as I have started to see done with some BMWs and other high end cars that lack grill space for a front plate.
I know you would not really do that because you have a Jag F-Type - so you must be much smarter!!
It wasn't your white F-Type that I saw parked in Scituate yesterday, was it??

My state has the same law. My F-Type has never had a front plate and neither has my 4C. No tickets, but I'd rather pay the fine if I get one.

Highway tolls won't be an issue if you have an E-ZPass that scans it under your windshield. In MD, front license plates are also required but I haven't had it on my C43 coupe for as long as I've owned the car (2.5 years now) and with 0 issues. I realize that it's illegal but as long as you don't act a fool, chances that you'll get pulled over just for that are minimal. I keep mine in the trunk in case I do eventually get pulled over and it should yield a warning at most with a promise to put it on right away.

I think I’ll just consult my local Jaguar dealership and see what they have to say. There’s a bracket that came in the boot but I can’t seem to figure out if it can fit on the front grill.

No, sir! I’m on the North Shore!

www.stonsho.com. I have one and they work great. Plate comes off and on in seconds.

CA requires front plates. I haven't run one in 20 years. I got a ticket for it once when I was parked. I simply put the plate on with sticky tape, got it inspected and then removed it.

https://stonsho.com/ makes a dencent option.

Wow! That’s perfect for what I’m looking for! Much appreciated.

Hi Dan,
My 2020 F-Type came with a Jaguar mounting plinth that attaches to the front bumper bar. I’m also in Massachusetts, and in the past I got pulled over in my TR6 for no front plate. Also, my trusted local inspection station goes “by the book” and will not give me a sticker without the plate firmly attached. (They also disallow any license plate frame that covers any lettering on the plate itself.)
I gave up and just screwed it on. My car is black with the black package to I figure the white plate makes it al little more visible. :-)

I'm in California and our vehicle code also requires a front plate. I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars since 1982. I did get a "fix it" ticket one time though, I attached the plate for the inspection to clear the infraction, paid the small fine and then took it off again.

I removed the bracket for the front plate the day I took delivery of my F Type and will continue to take my chances, but as others mentioned the Sto N Sho bracket is a great product and easily attached without any drilling. You can get one on Amazon for about $90. If I do get ticketed I'll be buying one for my car rather than trying to reinstall the factory bracket.

I definitely recommend the STO-N-SHO for two reasons besides the ability to add/remove the front plate in seconds. First, there's already the perfect mounting bolt for the STO-N-SHO bracket underneath the front bumper. Second, the STO-N-SHO bracket is slightly lower than the front lip and sticks out just enough to serve as a "curb warning" device. It's saved me several times from accidently running the front lip into a curb or a concrete parking stop block. I have scrap marks on the bottom of my license plate frame to prove it.

I’ve had my car for 9 years and 75k miles and have not put the front plate on. No one seems to care. I have a tow-hook plate mount I install for the annual state inspection, then take it off. The plate and mount stay in my glovebox, so I could pop it on if someone gave me a hard time.

The Sto-n-sho is a popular solution. Leave the plate in the glove box!

No front plate = happy car

Jberry20 04-20-2022 10:41 AM

When I picked up my F Type at JLR Norwood in 2017 the salesman handed me the plastic plate holder and said they would not install it or the plate on the front. I used a Platypus plate holder that screws into the tow hook for a couple of years but that looked terrible as well. Plate is now zip tied to the lower grill with most of it resting on top of that little spoiler lip at the bottom.

This is style I used when Ohio required front plates (no longer. Yeah!!). I had heard it can Interfere with radar cruise control but my car doesn’t have that. It uses tow hook slot so requires no drilling.

I second that opinion. I have their bracket and if you have to have the plate thats the bracket to get. Very well made and can be quickly removed with a pull of a pin. I keep mine in the back so I can give the excuse "I'm sorry officer, I took the plate off to clean and forgot to put it back on"

Please, no zip ties or lounging on ones bonnet. "Besides, there's no reason we can't be civil......"

SassySarah 04-21-2022 07:06 AM

Glove box, boot, trash can, garage wall.... I can't think of any other suitable places for a front plate.

Uncle Fishbits 04-21-2022 04:18 PM

Sto-n-sho is probably the best option, but *especially* with a frame, you're going to scrape the hell out of the plate. It serves as a warning, to some extent, since you hear the plate scrape before the cars does! I do enjoy it, and I should remove it more often, for sure.
