2. The next type is Dexcool. This coolant is an organic acid technology coolant (OAT) and was developed by GM for extended service intervals. Ford did try this out in one of there vehicles for 1999 but found so many problems with this type of coolant they discontinued use of this coolant. The main problem is that this coolant uses 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid as one of the buffer constituents in the coolant. Being a chemist, the guy really seems to make sense on this one based upon real science instead of relying on rote repetition or FUD.(fear, uncertainty and doubt)
It seems that the most important thing if remaining with DexCool is to keep the system topped up and change the coolant regularly. On the other hand, he really likes Zerex G-05 and diesel coolant like Shell ELC. A changeover requires thorough flushing of the existing coolant. ++ |
I wonder why Jaguar has continued the use of OAT if Ford discontinued it?

As far as I can see it there is no need for Jaguar to change, the OAT is working very well (think they now have 8 years drain intervals), and as the water pump has plastic impellers, it doesn't need a coolant to combat cavitation effects with silicon for instance (Ford is using metal impellers that requires protection, so they must use something like G05 with silicon).
