1967 420G radio replacement
Looking online, looks like a single DIN unit fits nicely under the dash in a little cubby that connects the dash to the tranny hump. As for speaker placement, you will need to do a little looking. I would recommend doing a complete rewire of the speaker wire and going with say 16 gauge speaker wire. This will be adequate for whatever head unit you get to power the speakers without any loss. Spend the little extra on this wiring, you will be glad you did. The big thing you will have to work around is how the power is fed to the radio. As I remember, your car is a positive ground car (unlike 99% of the other cars out there that are negative ground). What this means is the positive of the battery is tied to the body of the car. This makes hooking up the radio a bit difficult to have it turn off with the car as your red and orange wires are going ot both go to the chassis. The way around this is to install a small relay and wire the orange power wire through the relay so the relay opens on turning off the car and this will remove power to the radio and it will function like any other car. If I need to go into more detail, let me know. Simple trick for making a new "switchable power source".
Thanks so much
fortunately it's a negative ground system and I measure a 2" x 7" oblong opening and I was just wondering if I'd have enough space behind to put in a standard radio maybe a floating screen Alpine. I plan on speakers in the doors on the front and two speakers on the rear deck, which should give me good sound, but I'd appreciate any input
Cheers

Thank you so much for your input. Have another question for you. I'm thinking that I would like to replace the two speakers that are on the console on either side and I need to know what size speakers would fit. Also, I'd like to put speakers in the two front doors at the portion, lower portion of each door, as well as in the rear deck, which would give me six speake of which the Console would be the least participating but may contribute something to the total sound. Anything you might suggest, including for door speakers considering these are electric doors windows I wanna make sure I don't make them too deep and have them lock up with the windows any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, thank you so much for your input and if you have any reference material, I'd appreciate it. I haven't been able to find any.
I've worked with Crutchfield in the past for three other radios on cars that I've worked on and they recommended that for this model I go with either Alpine or Pioneer and the pioneer met my needs and so I will be going with that. For the speaker, I'll be pulling the speakers out of the console and just giving ( Lee, Crutchfield) the dimensions, and we'll see what he can come up with. As for the doors, the front doors have electric windows.I found the door speakers for a 2003S type that I have that are great/ made by Alpine. I'll just have to see if the depth would create a problem, if not, they were terrific in my 2003 S type. As the rear deck has no obstructions and is fairly straightforward. I'll probably try two 6 x 9's. When I was a good deal younger I worked on a number of jags 120, 140s, types, 3.4 S, 3.8 S, mark 10 and now a 420 G. I very much appreciate your suggestions. I will try to give you some feedback on what I finally wind up choosing for the console, doors, and rear deck, (possibly six speakers) I will look forward to speaking to you more in the future and I will continue to learn as I go on. Jaguar, restorative care has been a fascinating challenge ha ha

Thank you so much for your input. I have found a radio that should fit that slot quite nicely and has a floating screen which will allow me to have an adequate but not destroy the center console appearance. Now to the doors.
Any suggestion as to what size speakers would fit I was planning on doing possibly the front two doors and the rear two doors to give complete sound and then decide whether I want to put a speaker in the rear deck. The car seems to ask for stereophonic Fidelity sound and I would like to accommodate it, but I'm worried about the depth of the speakers interfering with electric window motor or even glass mechanism. I would greatly appreciate any input that you might give me because I am now at the speaker phase.
