MkX 420G Manual Conversion
Hi Thorswhisper
There are now so few of these cars around, and also of those made in total, few were manual gearboxes, that you'll struggle to get a response.

I think you'll find most cars in the US will be auto transmission, (Borg Warner).

The challenge is half the fun of it. If I wanted an easy car to do, Id do and E Type or TR-3. The clutch pedal assembly is the biggie. Followed by the trans tunnel cover and tranny rear support. And so the hunt begins....
I am just starting the restoration of a '65 MKX 4.2 that has a manual with the overdrive. However, I was told a few years back that some guys who drive XK150s, 140s and MK2s on a sort of "daily basis" actually put upgraded modern brakes and gearboxes as the overdrive unit alone is told to be as heavy as a complete gearbox. So I am actually looking to replace this 4 speed overdrive by one of those retrofitters. I think they are Getrags. Not sure though. Anybody here heard of it?
I agree with Coventry. Overdrives are fairly light.
4 speeds plus OD arent heavier than autos.
If youve got a manual transmission MK X youve a fairly rare car. Not many manuals were produced.
