44,773 ORIGINAL MILESI purchased this original A/C power steering late Series II roadster from the heir of the original owner. To the best of my knowledge, it was never driven after the original owner's death. It was originally purchased as a left over in 1972, was garage kept, and always a second, third or fourth car for him. I purchased it 4/13/2007, with 37131 miles on it. Due to its age, I purchased it with the understanding that I would do a full restoration.I restored the car using the philosophy of Eagle Jaguar in England, appropriate use of modern technology, but keeping the classic looks, and soul of the original car. Difficult to tell from a bone stock car, until you drive it!


The best way to sum up how the car was built, was a comment by a spectator from the first English car show I brought it to. I overheard a guy talking to his girlfriend," whoever built this car had a lot of money, and really knew what he was doing!"


It was restored by Jaguar XKE specialists Langley Motors in Sanatoga Pa., over a 3 year period, as a cost is no option project. Having had a 1970 Jaguar XKE OTS in the past, I set out to correct the weaknesses of the original car as I saw them. Heat transfer into the cabin, poor cooling, among other issues.The car was fully disassembled, placed on a rotisserie, all rust was removed, sand blasted to bare metal, and the new panels were installed with the monocoque firmly bolted to a dedicated XKE jig. I chose Lindley Motors because of their excellent reputation, and they did not disappoint. Lou and Vince did a fantastic job! All new floors, inner and outer sill, new trunk floor, were among the many new panels welded in place.The body was flawlessly painted in a modern base coat clear coat Jaguar champagne,( Jaguar offered this color as a one year only color ), the tan interior is all SNG Barret, the seats are tastefully modified so that the seats may be fully pushed back, and the sides fit neatly into the cockpit with the top down, giving maximum leg space for a taller driver. The tan cloth top was custom made by George Hughes of Authorized Imported Cars,(AIC), in Flemington NJ, another Jaguar specialist, so it fits properly! All the chrome was professionally dechromed to a show finish. All the glass is new.


The engine was treated to a full, high performance rebuild, including a .030 overbore, 10:1 forged pistons, coated with both a low friction side skirt, and ceramic piston top coatings by Swain Coatings. All new cylinder head studs from ARP, obviously new bearings, slight head porting, electronic fuel injection, ( a Big Stuff 3 box ), and Jenvey Weber style throttle bodies on a Mangoletsi Manifold with cable throttle activation. The cables give smooth throttle engagement, versus the notchy, and imprecise action of the original firewall rod mounted system. The cams are Rob Beere new fast road cams, as the original reground cams wore out prematurely, necessitating removal of the head, new guides, new valves, performed by George Hughes of AIC. The perfectly purring 6 cylinder makes 305 HP, and 360 Lb/Ft of torque, which is mated to a 5 speed transmission for 5 speed.com, ( a Tremic unit). This leads to a casual 2,000 rpm at 70 mph, a very nice change from the original 4 speed. The car will pull cleanly in any gear from 1,200 rpm! The oil pressure gauge shows and idle oil pressure of 40 psi when hot. The oil filter has been converted to use a modern oil filter.The exhaust system is all stainless, coated with a white ceramic by Swain Coatings, virtually eliminating any heat transfer into the cabin. The cabin also benefits from Koolmat's interior heat mat, along with extensive use of their reflective heat shield underneath the car. Critical to keeping the cockpit cool, is a custom metal heat shield over the exhaust under where the shifter enters the cockpit.



Suspension wise the car has a full Rob Beere fast road suspension, an upgraded power steering system using an XJ 6 system , purchased from SNG Barratt. The front brakes are Wildwood's, the rebuilt rear brakes feature a Rob Beere, 'Easy Bleed" system. All the suspension bushings are polyurethane, all the suspension arms are correctly anodized. All new Dayton 6" wire wheel wrapped with 205 Michelin radial tyres. Included with the car is a wheel nut "socket, and ¾ inch torque wrench to a traumatically install and remove the wheels without worry of hitting the body with a hammer, along with the piece of mind, that the wheel "spinners" are properly tightened! Instillation of the Rob Beere Fast Road suspension was done by George Hughes of Authorized Imported Cars, in Flemington N.J., and the final wheel alignments was performed by Don Fields at MrMCar in Farmingdale NJ, who builds and supports BWM race cars, he is very meticulous! All new wiring harness from British Wiring was used. All the lights, and light fixtures are new. The rear brake lights are LED. All the gauges, ARE original, and work correctly. The A/C is by Retro Air, and works well. The power steering is an upgraded unit originally from an XJ 6, sold as a conversion kit by SNG Barratt. All the brake and clutch lines are new from Classic Tube. The front brakes are a Wilwood conversion, the rebuilt rear brakes feature a Rob Beere "Easy Bleed" system. All the braking components are new. The passengers are protected from heat transfer into the cabin,( a real problem on XKE's), via a multipronged approach. The exhaust system is coated with a ceramic coating by Swain Coatings, from the headers to the resonators, that significantly reduces heat transfer. Under the cabin is a reflective heat barrier br KoolMat, to reflect heat from the exhaust system, along with another metal heat shield from KoolMat, to block heat from going into the cabin via the shifter hole. The floor of the passenger cabin has KoolMat's urethane heat shield on the floor under the carpets. These measures produce a cool cabin, that lets in virtually NO HEAT from the engine, a common downfall of the XKE's.



The radio is a rebuilt unit from a German specialist, period correct, with the ability to hook into your iPhone, or other portable device. The radio antenna is an NOS Jaguar piece.
