2011 Jaguar XJL Supersport

This rare model was the Jaguar’s answer to the Bentley Mulsanne. It came with every luxury and performance feature in the catalog – from adaptive cruise control to a 510 hp supercharged engine, from soft aniline leather on every possible cabin surface (even the headliner) to rosewood inlaid trim on the doors, from a 1200-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system to front and rear heated and cooled seats. Car & Driver achieved a 0-60 time of only 4.1 seconds, and the ¼ mile was covered in 12.4! Despite the ferocious performance, the Supersport is every inch the refined, silky-smooth luxury car, capable of crossing continents with effortless ease and comfort. The original base price was $111k, something of a bargain compared to the Bentley – which it handily outperformed. Two keys and all manuals.

The only non-functional item is the front retractable sunroof shade which is permanently open. Since the sunroof has very dark tint it has never seemed worth fixing.

With Jaguar moving to an electric platform in the coming years, the Supersport must be considered to be the ultimate embodiment of the famous Jaguar slogan – “Grace, Space and Pace” – we will not see cars like it again.
