I have a 95 xj6 and a 95 xjs and they use the same cps. I suspect that they will be the same between a 95 and 97 sine they both use the same 4.0 engine.
If the tach moves then it is most likely a faulty cps. If you already have the cps, then throw it in the xjs and watch it fire up!
Make sure that you know how to change the cps before driving from Richmond and then if it fails it is a minor roadside repair vs having to be towed, etc.
I live just about 20 miles south of the turnoff for the mass turnpike

Thank you so much for responding. I bought a cps for the 97 to have just in case. I guess ill buy another for the 95 xjs. I will check if the tact move while im cranking. If it does is that good? What would that indicate. Are the 95 and 97 cps interchangable . Ive read they are a fail point . My travels can take me up towards scranton then the truway then the mass pike. I was thinking 95 to merrit parkway onto 84 then the pike. Not sure yet ill be heading north on thursday of this week thing an overnight along the way

Hello i was reading your old thread on a xjs no start. I have a 95 xjs 4.0 and after running it for the first time this spring it sat a few weeks and now i cant get it ti restart. Cranks but wont fire. Ive heard the cps can cause this and wonderind if the fail by just sitting idle. Do you know? Btw im heading down to richmond this week to pick up a 97 xj6 driving it back to Maine . This recent dilemma has me nervous. Thanks, Jeff
