bracing prior to blasting and sub frame removal

Attached are photos of bracing I'm using.
Inside the car bracing is a copy of one I found on this site. Front fender bracing is an idea from my welder. One brace runs from the hood hinge mounting to the outer bumper bracket mount, and then from the bumper bracket to the front jacking point mounting. An addition cross brace in the engine compartment runs between the front inner fenders. The rear is braced in the differential well. We also added an additional bracket/brace to the rear rotisserie mount. |
Keep posting pics! That is so cool, I am amazed at the many talented folks here that are doing some fantastic custom work on their Jag's. I love custom cars and yours is shaping up to be an impressive build....

Looking to the rear in the first pic, you are looking at the loop for the top of the three link. On the top of the differential housing you see the tabs for the bar that attached to the loop |

Busy day today.
Humidity has been high. Blaster hopes to get started on the body tomorrow and finish Friday. The frame arrived this morning. Here's some shots from the arrival, and a friend goes for the first test drive. I'll take some detail shots, post those. |

A friend described the welds on an Art Morrison (no affiliation) as jewelry. I tend to agree. "Johnny Joints" are used in the ends of the rear control arms. Front spindles are Corvette C4. Front suspension design is AME GT Sport. Rack is a Mustang 20:1 power. |
Blasted

This is nuts, but what I bargained for, hahahaha.
Blaster called me just before lunch. Said he finished the body this morning. He works the early shift. Minor pin holes here and there. For 55 years old, it is a super shell to start with! |
In reference to "johny joint" are you meaning rose joints, or also called heim joints?

Johnny Joint may be a trade name. They Johnny Joints are the big cad plated ones in the pictures. The Johnny's are rebuildable - more of a street and track version of a heim. Stainless heims are used in the Watts Link set up on the back of the pumkin.

Car looks in great shape with the paint removed, and the chassis is certainly an exciting item. Are you going to have to remove the original chassis rails to get the new one in? I would imagine some heavy mods to the front frame at least.

Chassis modifications

Frame and Body First the shuda. But then someone told me I should not should on myself. Plan should have included at least a 1/2" intrusion into the floor with the frame. As designed, fingers crossed, the car will be 1/2 inch higher than original, and with 4 1/2" ground clearance. All factory rails will be removed. Inside of rear wheel wells will be moved in to the outside of the new frame rail. Front rail is almost 1 1/2" wider at the outside than the measurement outside to outside of the flange lip of the front rail. Al leas, I will be rolling the front fender lip in for clearance, and at worst widening the front fenders. The factory jacking boxes will be tied to the sides of the new rails. Tub repair There are a few bumps, dings, bondo, and pin holes. My plan is to use panel adhesive and thin steel patch behind the pin holes - the ones I can get to with the patch. I was concerned about the front floors above the jacking boxes - maybe three pin holes on the passenger front floor. |
