New member Intro..

I just purchased a 2000 Jaguar S-type 3.0.. When I drive it, after a couple of miles it loses power and shuts off. The diagnostic codes that came up were p1388 and p1383, banks 1 and 2. Should I replace the timing solenoid? I'm also going to replace the coil pack, spark plugs, intake gasket, and valve cover gaskets. Is there anything I could be missing? Let me know because I'm ready to ride.

Welcome to the Forums.

There is a lot of info in the S Type Tech Section, and I reckon you have pretty much covered most of any "to do list"

BUT

Fuel filter.
The "stupid" 90deg breather hose under the lower inlet manifold, since you will be 95% there doing the coils etc, makes much sense.

Throwing parts at it is not the best idea, and they dont have too many issue, well both mine dont, thats for sure.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Texas4023,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

P1388 =
VVT Over retarded – Bank 2. The possible causes listed in the Jaguar DTC lookup are:
1. Bank 2 VVT solenoid valve to PCM PWM drive circuit fault
2. Bank 2 VVT actuator oil supply fault
3. Bank 2 VVT actuator stuck

P1383 is the same for Bank 1.
