Default 05 and newer wiper question

I know we are all frustrated with the limited selection of wiper blades due to the integrated washer jets. I was almost ready to drill holes in my bonnet to mount nozzles...

Then I drove my wife's XK8. And the answer was right in front of my face. Her car (MY1998) has the washer jets on the arm, not the blade. Would it be too much to ask if the engineers made them interchangeable?

comments, ideas welcome.

I believe it is quicker, easier, and more economical to just find a trusted source for the proper aftermarket wiper blade inserts and stock up as needed. Our local NAPA store has always been able to order them for me even though other forum members have reported that their NAPA locations could no longer get them. I keep the NAPA part numbers in my S-Type folder and phone them in as needed, usually two pair at a time (which typically lasts me two years or more). Last time I ordered (September 2012), two sets of inserts cost me a total of $10.23. Works for me....

I had zero problems replacing mine. Top post on the second page by docuzzi is spot on and exactly what I have. You need the Trico NEOFORM (must be those in the blue box as pictured in the post) 16-190 and 16-240 models for the left and right side.

You can get them at either NAPA or Advance Auto Parts.

Lift the blade up slightly, push the clip on the OEM blade and slide it out and you'll notice the washer nozzle is on a little bracket that attaches to the blade and then the arm slides into the nozzle bracket.

The Trico arms have a similar bracket so you just remove the little adapter bracket and pop in the washer nozzle one and slide it on to the arm. Ta-Da.

While you're at it you can pop off the cover to the arm and loosen the bolt so you can drop it down below the windshield line to give it a cleaner look. Total time? 10 minutes if you kill a beer and shoot off a couple texts.

I've had Tricos for a couple weeks and they've been perfect. They contact the entire way and clean the windshield perfectly. They're also pretty inexpensive and a decent blade.

Why not buy them from an official Jaguar dealer. Here in the UK the price of the complete blade from Jaguar is very competitive, and it also keeps the car to the same specifiction as it was when turned out by the manufacturer.

Inver.

Perhaps the Jaguar dealership prices for wiper blade inserts are competitive in the UK, but that is certainly NOT the case here in the US....

Hi
Ah I'm referring to the whole wiper blade assembly (including Rubber Insert, Blade Holder and Washer Nozzle complete) For a pair, they cost in the region of £28.00. If the exchange rate is in the region of £1.60 then your cost would be about $44.80 if I've worked that out correctly.

Regards,
Inver.

uhhh... they charge 40$ to change the rubber insert here. So I highly doubt that's the price for new wipers.

Hi,

The pair of complete Blades @ £28.00 is the price of the Blades only. I remove and fit the new blades so it saves the cost of any dealers labour charge.

Not absolutely sure of this, but the Jaguar dealer network in the UK charge in the region of £16.00 for the rubber inserts for the 2 Wipers.

Regards,
Telfer.

To the newbies here in the states or where Auto Zones are located. Auto Zone carries a whole array of aftermarket clip on washer nozzles that will work on our 05+ MYs. They are kept behind the counter and you have to ask a sales rep. to see them.

Advantage Auto Parts has a fairly good selection (most times) of wiper blades that fit S-Types. They also will do free installs which is helpful since I never remember the trick to install them. I guess it's the ravages of old age that's getting to me.

The Napa stores in my area won't bother with refills so you're left to blades. Pretty much all of the autoparts stores want to sell blades.

So I took the original list of numbers and traced down some Trico refills that fit.
These are essentially the same thing as the Napa ones which I've been using for about 4 years now.

Nothing special just OK. I don't know if there's a better variety of Trico refills.
There might be as they make so many variations.

Anyway I decided to order 4 sets and solve the issue for a while.

Wiper blades discussions is becoming like engine oil discussions LOL
