2002 s-type DSC fault code

My 2002 s-type has been in storage since October 2013. I pulled the battery out and put it on a trickle charge. When I put it back in it won't start. It cranks like crazy but won't start and DSC fault code shows on message center. I have checked all the fuses and they were fine. I'm at a lose on how to procede and would be thankful for any help or suggestions. Thank again for the help.

What engine, do you hear the fuel pumps when you switch ignition on?

Also check inertia switch hadn't been tripped?

jagjim Apr 7, 2014 07:41 AM

I will check the fuel pumps but, I have no idea what an inertia switch is or where it is located. Thank very much for your help.

I located and checked the inertia switch. The button on top of switch is down all the way.I do not hear the fuel pumps running or smell gas when attempting to start. When I'm a crank the motor the airbag fault light stays on. My S-type does have the 3.0 V6.

I have checked all the fuses and they are fine. Still can not hear fuel pumps running. Would it be possible to have a DSC fault not allow pumps to run? thank you in advance for your help.

JagV8 Apr 11, 2014 01:37 PM

I reckon not. Has to be something else, burnt out pump or whatever.

police666 Apr 11, 2014 01:40 PM

Looks line it's time to pull the pumps and bench test them.

See jtis for how to

Well, I or should I say my brother found the problem. I must have missed the fuel pump fuse when I was checking them. Car started but still has DSC fault code,Abs code, brake light, traction control light and battery light. Thank you for your help. It's good to know there is somebody willing to help.

I would have the battery and alternator checked. The battery light being on is telling you the system voltage is not high enough either due to a bad battery or the alternator not putting out enough volts. Since the car has been sitting, I would be betting on needing a battery; and replacing it also gives you a good chance of the other lights going off as well.

Thanks for the advice. Just checked the alternator it is sending 14.25 volts to the battery. Under a load test the battery dropped to 11.5 volts and held there. When I checked the water it was very low.I filled it and charged it.It does have a dead cell.

Then it's time for a new battery. These cars draw massive amounts of power and when the existing battery is no longer up to the job, all sorts of spurious warnings start being thrown such as the ones you are seeing. Replace the battery and if you're lucky, that may turn out to be all you need to do. Pep Boys sells the appropriate Bosch vented battery for about $100. Go to their website before you drive to their store - they usually have a battery coupon that you can print and take with you that may save you $20 or more....

police666 Apr 14, 2014 11:04 AM

ok, a new battery should sort everything out

tbird6 Apr 14, 2014 11:47 AM

jagjim please post back if you find the problem?

We are guessing and it sure points to the battery but you never know?

Yep, time for a new battery. I had a battery holding a charge at 12.48 V and caused all sorts of issues. New battery resolved all phantom faults...
