2005 Jaguar S Type 4.2 L : Saga Continues New Codes

Previously able to resolve check engine light by replacing O2 monitors - an thought I was Scot free! However been getting intermittently - Restricted Performance error - and the following codes occasionally in my OBD:

1) P001 Fuel Volume Regulator Ckt
2) P0351 Ignition Coil A Primary Secondary Ckt
3) P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire
4) P 1316 Misfire Excessive Emission Fault
5) P 1000 DTC Definition Not found - Refer to Manual
6) P1638 DTC Definition Not Found - Refer to Manual'

Note : I had previously replace Coil in 1, 3, 5 & all sparks at an exorbitant cost and took it back to the shop for repeated CEL for cylinder misfire which comes up only briefly.

Will appreciate insight to the above and how I can fix this reasonably. Would like a schematic with the for the various cylinder bank & item 2).

Thanks in advance!

P001 is missing a digit.
All the codes (with causes) are in the free download workshop manual JTIS and also the codes PDF.

You may have disturbed the wiring for cyl. 1 or else the coil is likely bad.

Thanks - I have downloaded the WorkshopManual from Jagrepair.com - is there a specific page one can search where the codes are located in the manual? Is JTIS acronym for Jaguar Technical Info I presume. Any insight in quick and resonable cost fix is tremendously appreciated.

The OBD codes are contained in their own stand-alone document from the same site.

It's included with JTIS, too. And on a menu, isn't it?

Thanks guys! I have located the codes within the manual - including the ignition coils. Any recommendation on type model of ignition coil component compatible for S 4.2 L - original IC was Denso but a search for IC in AZ and other online sites lists off brand ignition coil. Six months ago, I had a garage which works on Jaguar charged me $ 600 to replace 3 ignition coil (including Coil 1) and 8 plugs - not going back there !

Thanks again!

One suggestion.

Change all 8 coils and all eight plugs. With several going down the others are suspect.

Also if you find any oil in the plug wells change the cam cover gaskets as well or you will be repeating this repair.

One of your codes does point to a wiring problem so carefully inspect the clips on the coils and injectors as they can and do break as they get old and brittle.

I tend to use factory parts. We have a vendor that gives us 15% off list and free shipping on orders over $75. It was free shipping for $25 and up but that has changed.

I use these guys;

As for Ken Pope. He knows the forum deal.

Couldn't get P3051 code resolved and decided to take the car to Jaguar for additional diagnostic. More issues cropped up:

1. Prior to taking the car in, while filling the fuel discovered fuel tank overflowing - major pouring out - my primary alarm due to safety issue in taking it to Jag. Apparently there was a recall back in 2006/2007 for fuel tanks and seal That I read and hope it would be cover under. Jag tells me the recall is way over and my car was "inspected and taken care of in 2007" and the left tank sealing ring needs to be replaced - it is a plastic.

2. P3051 is noted to be using aftermarket coil - not compatible! My previous garage changed three coils - only incl 1, 3 5 only 1 is giving the error others seems ok but recommends all 3 should be changed. Wants $ 180/coil ouch!!

3.Additionally notes a purge valve tubing - right on top of engine next to engine manifold is broken and needs replaced - it is a Denso 442 noted cost $ 180

Would like to know anyone has experienced the above1 & 3 items.

Yes they have both been reported. The plastic tank seal is a bear to get off. But a guy on here made a dead simple tool from a piece of PVC pipe that worked perfect. He got a big enough ID pipe and cut some slits in the end to match the tank seal OD.

I found it!! This is great example of a guy using common sense to fix a massive expensive problem for pennies. Truly another reason for this forum!

The tubing is plastic and does fail with age. Any pictures? Different people have different names for the same thing.

Here is a good thread about the tank and tank seals.
